Amateur (Ham) Radio BS and Callsign Thread!

I suspect that there's some error between the tnc port/ bluetooth device and my phone. There are times when I'll receive packets at s9+ and will have no data on the log to show for it. I'll do some. I'll trouble shoot when time allows. Overall it works well.

 

The FTM-400 will output GPS data to a PC or tablet. You just cant control it's internal TNC from either. I use a mini-din cable to a serial/bluetooth adapter to my Samsung tablet, or Win10 tablet. Anything that hits my antenna gets displayed on the map.

 

What did you guys use to study for your HAM License? I want to get my general license

 

I was hitting 27-32 of the 35 question test when I took mine. Got 30/35 on the real test. Just for your general information

 

The noise from the LED lights might be able to be suppressed. Mix 31 snap-on ferrites connected close to the source or noise and on the leads of the radio might fix it. Call Palomar engineers and tell them your getting LED interference form LED lights on your mobile radios and they will be able to help you get the right product to suppress the noise. https://palomar-engineers.com/


The radio turning off when you honk the horn sounds like a voltage drop. They can be a problem with your voltage distribution method or you could try a shorter wire run with heavier gauge wire. The Tm-V71A is very picky when it comes to voltage dropping. I had a problem with the V71a with voltage dropping when I had the radio plugged into a Powerwerx powerpole distro block. I remove the distribution block and shortened the wire run and no more voltage dropping.

 

Thats perfect! I rather see what studying vs real world looks like. Did you study both the technician and the general sections or just the general?

 

I took them at separate times. This last round I probably took about a month of light studying for my general and passed.

 

I was told that only outputs data for aprs. Not for ysf.

 

How often? Are you certain it's not a collision?

Ok, so you are wanting the GPS location they transmit every time they key to show up on a map. Not APRS beacon. I hadn't thought of that. Would be interesting if that info could be sent to a tablet.

 

We should do a TW field day. All 14 of us lol.
