Brake Upgrade: StopTech Rotors + TRD Performance Pads

Only use 3, 4, or 5.1.....5 is NOT compatible with the others.

You really have to look at the wet/dry boiling points rather than the DOT designation to determine which is better for your application. For example I'm running Motul 5.1 in the Tacoma as it has decent/high wet/dry boiling points and it doesn't absorb moisture as fast as some high performance DOT 3 or 4 fluids. In my mountain bikes and motorcycles I use Motul RBF 600 or 660 to get extremely high boiling points to counteract the frequent hard braking and smaller amount of fluid in the systems compared to a car. The trade-off (besides the higher cost of the fluid) is that it absorbs water faster so I tend to flush the fluid more often.

 

Does the Advics brand generally supply other Toyota models? I’m looking at replacing rotors and pads on my 2010 RAV4 and 2012 Prius V.

any Beck Arnely pad with the designation 089-**** is a direct factory replacement from the original equipment manufacturer

 

Just thought I would chime in after about 3000 miles on the stoptech rotors and trd pads, I get awesome performance (rarely hard stops but still when I had the pop up camper in tow they worked really well)

 

Give a shout if you find any deals on em. I need both as well

 

I can only find StopTech Sport Slotted Cryo Disc Front Right but not the left on wheelwell. are they backordered?

 

I got mine off ebay for 269.00 both sides with free shipping... arrived within a few days as I remember all there in un molested packaging!

Do the rear drums ever need replacing?

 

I had to replace mine at 190k miles. They were GONE though and had started making noise, straight metal on metal. All new springs, shoes and drums a couple hundred bucks later.

 

I'm about at that point. Did you go with autozone/oreileys specials or oem?

 

I believe I went with the beck arnley or centric rear drums and pads kit through rock auto. Prices for the OEM are crazy.

 

I used this. Like one reviewer, I had to reuse the spring adjuster on one side, but not a big deal. Everything else fits great.

Thanks OP for the detailed write up...ended up buying a set of these Stoptech rotors for my 3rd gen which is in need of a front brake job.

Everything I can find says that the brake pads from a 2nd gen will fit 3rd gen, but for whatever reason those TRD performance pads say they won't fit a 3rd gen. I ordered them anyway to try for myself. I'll report back.

As a backup, I emailed Stoptech to ask them which pads they recommend for these rotors...they gave me part # 105.09760, which sell on Amazon for about $35. Their description reads "Centric 105.0976 Posi-Quiet Ceramic Brake Pad with Shims". I'll use these as a backup if the TRD Performance pads don't fit.

 

Share pics if you can with the TRD pad fitment on 3rd Gen, I know that question has come up many times. Thanks for pioneering it out!

 

An engineers design on an OEM brake system is not always up to par per say including Toyota. The early tundra’s are a prime example of undersized brakes. They were notorious for warping rotors to include my 2003 Tundra which had OEM oversized roters to combat this. That old girl can eat up its front brakes in 30k easy.

 

For the sport slotted cryos? Left and right? You have links? I’ve been looking on that site and can only find the right side rotor at $168 before discount -

I have emailed them 3 times asking about the left side and haven’t heard back. Also tried their live chat and always get an unavailable reply back.

After Wheel Well $100 off, eBay is only $33 more for the pair... I may just go that route. Not impressed with Wheel Well customer service!

 

Thats weird. When i ordered them(2 weeks ago), the left side was listed on the site, but on backorder. I ended up getting both rotors in 5 days.
