How are you adjusting preload?

for those with adjustable coilovers, what's the easiest way that you adjust the preload?

I've seen a bunch of different ways that people do it, but I have the fox 2.5 preload wrench used for turning the ring and would prefer the most non-destructive adjustment method (without using a punch or screwdriver to put in the ring holes and hammering around)

Of course every performance coilover shock has a different ring setup, but here's my dillema:

    20190926_174957.jpg20190926_174950.jpg

with the shock on the vehicle, I can't seem to find a good way to adjust the preload ring down with either it jacked up in the air or loaded up on the ground.

    What am I missing here?

It's less Tacoma and more mod
I use a jack to apply weight until I can reach the ring. Those things look maxed the fuck out though

I'd say remove the upper uniball bolt separating the UCA and the spindle

That's the amount of preload that was on them from when I got them from Accutune. They made me level with the rear when I first got them and before I put my winch on. Now I wanna bring the front up a little bit to compensate for the weight.

Never had any coil bind or anything and the ride has been great, so I figured it was fine. They are 650 coils I believe Fox 2.5 extended travels w/ resis.

That's a good idea. I'll likely need to get a new bolt though since the it uses stover nuts and the fine threads will likely be shot.

Its unfortunate. But literally the only safe way I can think of in your situation

Ran into the same problem. I gave up but next time I get in there I think I'll just take the shock out and do it like that.

Fox sends out their shocks with pre-load already set to achieve "x" height.

What are you trying to accomplish?

By the way, there's a thread dedicated to Fox shocks in the suspension section. They explain how much you need to adjust your shocks if you wish to gain/drop any height out of them.

Something like 1" height with 1/2" of adjustment on your threads or vice versa.

I forgot about that thread. I'll bring it up over there and see what I can find out.

I'm just trying to bring the front up a little bit by tightening down the preload ring.

So again, Fox sends their stuff out already set for a specific height.

If your Fox shocks are EXT travel, for 3" of height, they're already set for 3".

Same goes for the standard travel, they're set for 2" of height.

Any more than their set height is not recommended.

    Good point.

Sounds like I should be looking into some different coils to compensate.

Read the other posts; yeah some different coils for the added weight should do the trick.

What all did you get from Accutune? Been meaning to do some business with them.

I just ended up removing the shock entirely rather than futz with trying to reach around the spindle and UCA.

I made a "mount" out of some angle iron that I can set in my vice that I can bolt 2 of the upper shock bolts to to keep it steady as I makes adjustments.

Got the extended travel Fox 2.5 CO w/ resi's and DSC adjusters.
They valved them according to the mods and current armor I have installed. I love them and they handle great. Will be going back for rears when I do a shock relocation.

I was thinking about doing something like that. Need to get a vise first before that can happen though.

    Got any pics?

Not on me, no. But you don't really need a vice. Take a piece of 2"x2" angle iron from homedepot maybe 2 or 3' long, then on one side drill some holes so they line up with 2 of the upper mounting bolts. Then lay down a towel or something on the ground to keep from scratching those beautiful shocks so the angle iron lays flat and just step on it. That should give enough leverage to keep it from moving around too much.
