It’s not some old worn out 2nd gen. All I have ever had done is Change the fluids and spark plugs, and had the trans flushed and filled. Still going strong.

Going strong or not, to me the whole idea of getting a 3 year old truck is to find one with low mileage. A much better deal would be a 2nd gen for thousands less and still going strong. Or a new Taco dealer financed at 1.99%, which is what I did.

Yeah I get that. I was able to buy my kids vehicles when they graduated or came to a point that they needed reliable transportation. I did it so they didn’t have to start with that debt. But do you think it’s a decent deal assuming it checks out ? Where I’m at, it seems like it’s an ok price. Although I would argue adding a little money to it and getting a brand new SR. That’s what I did

Tied several boat anchors to my truck to destroy MPG.
OP lets see your new truck. The peanut gallery has had their say, and seems like you were buying regardless of what your new Dads had to say.

Still not seeing “great deal” here, IDGAF where it is.

Let’s turn it around and say we were talking about getting kicked in the balls - which in reality is basically the same thing. The fact that you’re getting kicked in the balls doesn’t change because you are in California or Idaho. It’s still a kick in the balls regardless of whether people think it’s good or bad due to geographical location.

No fucking way id pay that much for a truck with that kind of mileage. Especially for a ‘16 that probably has tranny issues. Guarantee you’ll be on here later posting about how shitty it shifts.

Id get a low mileage truck through private sale and finance through my bank if I absolutely had to buy one now. There are good deals out there you just have to look.

Autotrader nation wide only had two 16 or newer DC 4x4 auto less than 100k miles and they where both almost $23k . Both are SR5 . What trim are you looking at ? They hold their value and I guess $23k is as cheap as you can get one used for .

Yep, in our region Tacomas hold their value tighter that a fat man holds a donut.

:) I mean if car salesmen were like strippers, I would be hanging out at more car lots.

Suspension is worn out I bet so front lower control arms & shocks. If it hasn't been done yet the timing chain cover is probably leaking a ton of oil down front of engine. Front diff needle bearing is probably completely worn out & possibly damaged diff/axle. If no service history will need all fluids changed with trans service & spark plugs. So not worth it unless someone has records of all the service work.

    None... yet.
This. My car buying strategy has always been to pick either car payments or car repair bills, but try to avoid having both.

Financing a three year old truck that is either out of warranty or about to go out of warranty, particularly one from the first year run of a new generation that had a lot of known issues... that’s just begging to have repair bills on top car payments.

I’d rather pay ten grand for a truck that’s a few years older but still mechanically sound, or buy new with three headache-free years and low financing.

But to each their own and it’s not like everyone can afford a new car (I couldn’t until very recently and I’m almost 40). I hope OP is happy with the purchase if he decides to pull the trigger, I mean it’s still a great truck. And it might work out great for him! I hope it does if he buys it. But playing the odds, I’d hold off or go a different direction.

edit: damn, read all the replies before you post.

I think you made the right call OP, I know it blows though. Just keep socking away the cash you were getting ready to put toward this truck, and when you find the next one it’ll be that much more affordable. Good luck with school man.
