Bent mine this week. I hit it on a rock..

 

If you don’t mind me asking, Monte, what trail did all of this carnage happen on with you and Mike and Dan?

 

Hey fellas, been a while. Thought I would update you on the Z. Got it started last night and it's on the ground! One brake caliper rebuild kit is keeping me from driving it.

In all seriousness a thread showing what cracks might not be a bad idea so others know what to look for and hopefully can prevent them before it becomes a complete failure.

Are your bed mounts still in good shape?

Nothing hard. I had a bloody lip so was nusing that down Hancock. Just came off a drop too hard.

Dan's...was a trail. Hard to explain.

Mike's was on the way to My Antero. Also not hard. Just Happened to happen there.

I don't like trying to put numbers to things like this, there's too many factors going on to try to do so easy math based on springs rates etc.

I.E. what happens when you go from full compression to full extension very quickly to the point where the front tires unweight. How quickly does that spring extend to the limit (shock limit) and what forces are applied when it stops. A strap puts that force on the frame where ever you weld the upper strap mount and not the shock/coilbucket.

 

Only for this bit...

My shock is shorter than the travel allowed by my control arms. So, when the shock reaches full extension, the wheel/tire is pulling down on the LCA, which in turn pulls down on the shock, and that in turn pulls down on the bucket.

 

well we all know you don't drive as hard... jk


That's a good point about splitting between the LCA and bucket. We didn't think of that. We also spent a grand total of 1 minute doing math on it hahaha so your numbers are likely more realistic.


That said. The LCA is a sight more beefy than the coil bucket is the only thing I can think of really. Obviously its not up to the task over time.

Again, I think fatigue is the main factor here.
