I have what looks like a pretty bad leak. I noticed after getting off the highway yesterday that smelled something a little off.

It looks like I have a leak after doing the ECGS needle bearing about 3 weeks ago, I had the local Toyota dealership install it because I've had good experiences with them so far, but I'm thinking they messed up the seal.

It was rainy yesterday so I'm hoping all this fluid is just from the front, and while on the interstate with all the rain it made it's way to the back end parts.

Does this seem reasonable? Or do I have more problems? I brought it into a shop as I'm out of town today, and they topped off my differential fluid but said there wasn't a ton missing.

Damn that's a lot of oil everywhere. If you just had the ECGS bushing done then the chance that the seal got messed up during that is extremely high, if you're just now having these issues. I would go back to the dealer and explain that they must've messed it up.

Yeah it's just weird that the shop that looked at it this morning said there was barely any missing, they didn't even charge me the standard 30$ top off fee. With that much oil all over, seems like it'd be missing a decent amount.

Yeah that is weird, I don't know. You could give it a smell. Gear oil has a very distinct smell, similar to rotten eggs. Very easy to differentiate from engine oil.

Doesn't smell like engine oil.. I checked the oil and was down maybe 1/4 of a qt, which is probably just me underfilling it slightly. It also seemed very thin... But that could be from water getting mixed in with it

    OME and worth every penny.
A little goes a long way. They prob. just flubbed the new seal.

I hope they used a new seal....right? If not a flub then maybe there's a wear ring on the CV stub. Just something to check, it's prob. just a installation gone wrong.

I told them specifically not to reuse the old seal and paid for a new one, so hopefully they used the new seal lol. I'll be back at the dealer Monday morning and if it isn't the seal hopefully it's something else easy.
