So i recently upgraded from my 2017 2wd to a 2018 4x4 but for.some reason I only get about 250 to empty on a full tank and on the 2017 I got 380? Why is it becsise of the front dif? I really wanna know it's kinda annoying paying the same to full tank but getting less

My guess is the 4x4 equipment adds weight. More weight equals more fuel consumption. Couple that with (if you have) add on such as running boards, tonneau cover, etc...
Also are you driving it like you stole it? Lead foot does get thirsty.

Are you driving around in 4wd all the time? I get over 400miles on a tank in the warmer months with mostly hwy driving. current tank at 23.3 mpg avg. even in 4wd I can still get in the 20s on a trip.

When I bought my 19 Off-road DCLB from the dealership it was 377 on a full tank, now it's more like 369. No heavy mods done or anything....

I average 22 mpg while driving mostly highway...that's about 2-3 mpg better than my 2nd gen used to get. But, I do miss that engine/tranny setup better than this one.

I can go over 400 between fill up's but usually just do it earlier. Filled up yesterday after 340 miles, held 15.3 gallons so that hand calculates to 22.2 MPG while the dash display said 22.1.

Average after 16 months on 4wd DCLB is 420/tank. That's an almost perfect split of highway and city driving.

The dash readout for DTE (distance to empty) is notoriously inaccurate and seems to depend primarily on the average DTE of the last 3-4 tanks. The fuel gauge is there for a reason - it is a better indicator of how much further you can drive.

Had almost 1/8th of a tank left. Truck said 36 miles til empty but could have gotten 45-50 no problem. Being on interstate though after traveling almost 420 miles without a stop I saw no sense in risking it.

Until you give us actual MPG's everything is no more than a wild ass guess. We need real numbers. Fill up your tank, stop putting gas in when the pump shuts off, set the trip meter and drive at least 200 miles. Fill up again, being sure to stop when the pump stops. If you keep adding gas afterward either time the numbers won't be accurate. Get out your calculator and divide miles driven by the amount of fuel you put in the tank. Do this every time you buy gas. Trying to make judgments on how many miles you get per tank is wildly inaccurate.

Even then it is best to do this 4-5 times and get an average for at least 1000 miles to get meaningful numbers. Depending on numerous factors MY truck (2007 DC 4X4) has gotten as low as 14 mpg and as much as 24 mpg. But about 16-17 mpg is typical for normal everyday driving. Somewhere in the high 19's to low 20's is typical on road trips. Either of your trucks should be close and probably slightly better

The electronic displays on these trucks are all over the place and are very unreliable. SOME are quite accurate, Most are optimistic and often very optimistic. The new truck may be accurate, the old truck not even close. If you never actually manually calculated the fuel mileage on your old truck then you have nothing to compare the old truck with the new truck.

All things being equal a 4X4 truck will get about 1/2 mpg worse fuel mileage than a 4X2 in the real world. The trucks are about 180 lbs heavier due to the added running gear. But when 4X4 owners start adding oversize tires with aggressive mud tread fuel mileage can take a 2-4 mpg hit.

It is possible, but only if you drive it until you're running on fumes. 19 mpg with a 21 gal tank will take you 400 miles. But I don't like to get much below 1/4 tank. I've seen too many bad things happen where no gas was available for 50-75 miles, power being knocked out by storms and not being able to pump gas for hours, even days. I've had to stop in 100 degree heat for over 4 hours and keep the engine idling while a traffic accident was cleared ahead of me. Lots of folks ran out of gas that day.

I do stop putting gas in the truck when the pump clicks off. When it stops at $32.29 I’ll fill up til $33.00. Adding less than half a gallon of gas on average still gets somewhat accurate reading. However when I calculate my true mpg, I fill it up until I se gas at the very top of the spout about to spill out from the tank. Then I drive it until next fill up. Top off completely again then calculate the mileage on a calculator. Very accurate. Typically only do this two times in first 2-3 months after owning truck and then maybe once a year afterwards to see if it’s still close.

20 gallons of fuel x 22 mpg is 440 miles to a tank. Seeing as how I round up to the next dollar, 440 miles is easily achieved in steady non stop interstate driving. Now if I were driving interstate here in Alabama, definitely not get 22 mpg. Be happy to see 19 but when I shared the previous photo it was a stretch from Michigan through Ohio and seemed like 97% flat highway.
