You mean literally over the terminals on the relays?
I have the heat shrink on the wire to connectors.
Anyone here know how to use the Meso cover with the add a fuse if you put it in the blank spot? Doesn’t seem big enough

 

Yes over the terminals so there is no exposed metal that can short.

It fits. You just put it on.

I have the pelfrey fuse panel but there is no room for relays.
I may put the relays on the bottom side.

 

Has anyone dont this with the pelfrey built tray.

 

Here’s my home made panel. In retrospect I could have gone with half the number of fuses and may well change it it the future. Really only need space for some future light circuits.

The yellow wires feed the Four Wheel camper. The blue goes to the backup camera mod. The red is redundant, and the compressor bypasses the fuses all together as I was unsure of the draw through the panel. Still lots to learn, but I haven’t fried anything yet.

You only need relays if you're above the rated switch current. For some switches, that's only 3A but for other switches it's 20A. Relays can do other things to but the most common reason is to allow a small switch current to activate a higher current accessory.

 

I'd still make the holes under the relays bigger as well to avoid chafing of the insulation causing a repeat of the short.

 

I use relays to larger loads, heated mirrors, and light bar.
Direct wire smaller loads(from the Blue Sea fuse block), underhood lights, and bed lights.

 

I've browsed through here quite a bit and can't really find many manufactured mounts other than paranoid fab. What other ones are available? I would like something a hair smaller.

Here’s one I’m working on. Just mocking up and test fitting now. I’m painting the panel and doing the wiring. Will post more when I’m finished. The relay / fuse box will support the addition of roof rack mounted scene lights and a light bar as well as bed lights. I’ll have 3 additional circuits for future add ons. I may try and squeeze the amp power fuse onto the panel as well.

 

Bussmann RTMR done, Now i just have to make the switch panel and install

I am doing it a bit different as well. For the 1st gen (as you found) the panel doesn't have enough space for the two ground bus bars on either side of the bussmann. Instead of putting at the top or bottom of the panel, I used longer screws and attached them like this -

I used this bussbar from bluesea instead.

and were mounted this way. I used a scrap piece of plastic to raise the rear busbar higher than the front one. Also if your going to route the negative wires like i did for the metripak terminals i would give an extra 1/4-1/2 inch of extra wire for the link between the fuses and relays so you have extra room to fit them.


And i mounted the ground lines differently than in the writeup.

 

Why the fat ground cable to the Bussman? It looks like your accessories ground to your buss bars so all that’s left is the coil current through the relays, all 5 of which don’t add up to even a single amp. Maybe I’m seeing it wrong but it looks like the main ground cable should go to the buss bars with an awg18 to the bussman.

 

Mostly because i couldn't find a way to link both bussbars in the orientation that it is. If you look at a 1st gen you would know that its extremely tight in there.

Either way it should still work as intended the only difference is the internal ground bussbar gets full amperage.

I was going to mount the bussbars exactly as you showed but based on the dimensional drawings on the bluesea website showed that there still wont be room on the sides.

 

Clever how you offset the ground busses to overlay the wires to the outer buss. The mount plate already connects the external buss bars though a metal strip joining each end would eliminate the need to strip the paint under the bolts. As you say, it works, but if space is tight it could be done with one small wire from the Bussman ground buss to the buss bars and the battery cable from there instead of those two cables and 3 heavy lugs. Clean work though.
