Hello everyone. I just wanted to take a moment and share my experiences from just selling my ZR2 Colorado with the duramax. Overall it wasn’t a bad truck at all. 30k when I sold it. Only reason I sold it was because it’s not a great “city” vehicle. These trucks do not like stop and go for an extended period of time. Straight highway it was great. Nearly 30mpg. But I was ready for a change and I had missed all my previous Toyota trucks (have had several). People ask me how did it compare odd road. To be honest, a stock TRD Offroad will go anywhere and everywhere a ZR2 could. Yes the ZR2 has better tires from the factory (duratracs) but overall they both will do the same thing off road. I enjoyed the ZR2 but honestly I’d drive this tacoma any day of the week. I have had this new tacoma for about a month and I love it. Transmission is fine for me. Will consider the ov tune for sure though to wake it up some. Anyway, just wanted to share my thoughts on these two vehicles and say hello to everyone on Tacomaworld. I’m more than happy to answer any questions about either vehicle. Thanks.

Congratulations! I see you went with the best colour. Great choice! I like the canopy you have on there, what is the brand and model?

I will say that I'm not a fan of the TRD OFF ROAD badges, but hey, it's your truck.

How did you like the fancy DSSV ZR2 suspension? Everything I've read sounds fantastic.

the dssv were pretty epic but certainly not the best setup you can get. Icons, fox, etc all make a better setup IMO

Thankyou for that. When I decided to go back to the tacoma, I was 100 percent dead set on Cement. Had to call several dealers to find the one I was looking for. Had to travel a little ways to get it but totally worth it!

    Welcome back and to TW.

I have wheeled a ZR2 DM truck, and wasn’t all that impressed. Diesel power was nice.

Yes the low end torque was nice but didn’t have much power at all. I’m happier to be back in the V6 for my daily uses.

I agree. These “baby” diesels just don’t have it in my opinion.
I’ll stick to a bigger diesel.

Nice looking. Full size are nice but for me to big for my daily life and plus they don’t fit in my garage which is a must for me.

Thanks for honest review, can't argue with someone who has owned both.
I know I'd be sweating repairing that diesel when it ages, you probably got out at the right time. Someone is going to pay back that 30 mpg on the first repair or two, bet.

Yes, between replacing fuel filters and adding that DEF fluid, it got old pretty fast. And yes everything with a diesel was way more expensive. Even a simple oil change seemed double in price. I wanted to try it out. Just wasn’t for me so I ditched it before the 3/36 ran out. I think I made the right choice. Nothing against GM, but Toyota over the years have been great to me and I really wanted to get back to Toyota. On the other hand, I wouldn’t steer anyone away from the ZR2 if that was there true passion.

It’s funny, I just sold my ZR2 diesel for the same reason you did. Too many diesel emission related items to go wrong down the road. PDF, DEF pump, diesel fuel filter, numerous emission sensors on the exhaust system, etc. I would never consider another diesel, it was my 1st and last one. I didn’t want to experience problems after the 3-year/36,000 warranty ran out. Emissions also strangled power from the Duramax engine and I never got higher than 23 mpg.

yes I agree 100 percent. The EPA has killed modern diesels. I threw many codes driving in the city because it couldn’t complete it’s “regen” cycle. Then have to go to Chevy for them to do a force regen to clear the codes. Frustrating for sure. These are not made for the city. I do not regret letting it go.
