I can’t wait!

 

Ugh. Busy week. Did finish painting the inner passenger fender today though. That much closer to my own install. I'm killing myself with all of these delays. Grr.

 

Was a pretty busy weekend here, so no updates. All I've done is tear everything apart to do the right camshafts. I am going to prep the valve cover for painting this week, as well as replace my lower radiator elbow (so I have a bit more room to turn the crankshaft), and figure out a strategy for measuring and setting the clearances. I can take my time because my car is running, although the turbos are dumping oil into the exhaust so I am getting a bit of a headache...

 

I am planning on getting that Milwaukee battery powered 90° ratchet. Just been reluctant. Will make easy work of the timing cover. I want to leave it on, but my gut has a feeling that when my friend was helping me months ago, the timing got off a tooth. Part of the reason that I have been delaying getting them in. The cleaning and everything is a lot of work.

Lesson here is, if they aren't qualified to help and prevent problems, only let them watch.

 

Here's a few pictures showing the difference between the cams. I haven't measured the difference in lift yet, although it can't be more than 2mm... but the profile itself is quite a bit beefier (these are exhaust cams, my intake cams are almost exactly the same profile according to my card).

And there's a picture of me attempting to use the spring compressor for my car, however it's going to take some modification. Slow going and I'm not trying to rush through it, but it's going.

Does anyone know how the Kelford cams are manufactured? Cast? Forged?

In other news, here's the adapter I made for the JWT spring compressor. Just needs a longer bolt now, which I ordered from Amazon and should be arriving in my mailbox tomorrow.

 

I'm not sure.

Maybe the weather will clear up and I can get some work done this weekend.

Weather’s been holding up here. Some think snow next week but how would that be different from any other day.

Got my threaded rod for the spring compressor yesterday so I’m crossing my fingers I’ll be able to replace the springs on the right hand side this evening.

 

I’d be down for next group buy.

 

Going to install my cams tomorrow. Everything is ready for me to.

The machining tolerances that Kelford maintains is remarkable. I did not have to change shims between old intake cam to the new intake cam.

 

When you other guys start this process, I am using Clevite Bearing guard, and or Redline Oil assembly lube.

 

Same stuff you would use for the stroker crank too? Making progress on disassembly over here.

 

I gotta just say this low mileage engine looks brand new! I would have liked to have seen the truck is was pulled from. I'm done working on it for a few days. Need more parts to come in and the money tree to grow a bit.
