bad gas mileage issue??

I don't know how many miles on your truck, but I have the 2.7l engine with automatic transmission at 114k miles and just did 3 pan drains and refills using about 13 quarts of OEM Toyota T-IV ATF fluid and gained at least 1.5MPGs and its running a lot cooler too, I'd also recommend trying to change out the ATF fluid if you have over 100k miles the whole trans holds 10.8 quarts so I ran 3 pan drains and refills and it runs and shifts like never before. used this vid(even tho its for a sealed 5 speed auto trans.) as a guideline on how I did it, youl need 13 qts. T-IV and a new pan gasket Part#

It has 51k on it. I was planning on doing it at 60k along with rear diff fluid. 60k is my preferred service interval for these fluids, besides transaxles. I like to over upkeep my vehicles.
I’ve thought about performing a fuel injection service if nothing improves after this tank of fuel.

 

I just took a couple of 40 minute drives today, mostly 45-60 mph with some traffic light stops. On the Scangauge, I averaged a little over 20 mpg each direction and hit 21 mpg at one point. I need to fill up next week so I'll get the actual mileage for this tank. But I'm pretty surprised to get this high with the 33" tires and 3" lift with an automatic. My truck has 65K miles and the cat pipe was replaced with a new one before I bought it. If you still have the original cat pipe, I wonder if there is a TSB recall for mine to be done around 60K.

 

According to service record through Toyota website it looks as if that has been done.

I was going to do the cooler line flush but this way is a lot cleaner to do and just as effective IMO, cannot believe how better the truck is running since I done this smooth as silk shifting, better mpgs, got to do at least 3 drains to complete the flush I ended up using 13 quarts

 

I bought my truck at 49k miles and immediately changed out all driveline fluids youll be really surprised how dirty the fluids were, I just did a pan drain when I brought it home took 4 quarts T-IV then every 30k miles till I did this flush, also I would stick with the OEM Toyota T-IV or MOBIL JWS 3309(same thing)

 

I will see what’s up with the mpg after this tank and then do it. Probably a good idea, I don’t know how the previous owners drove the vehicle. But from checking fluids for discoloration it didn’t look to bad.
I will be using Toyota oe products for the trans and diff.

 

yup mine looked cherry red on the stick but when i drained it looked deeper red than it appeared on the stick so its a little deceiving, I would definitely use oem TOYOTA atf those others although the say are compatable for use as T-IV ive heard a few instances when using others of not as good shifting or erractic shift points best to pay a little extra for the right stuff I bought a case off EBAY theres a few sellers that are selling the MOBIL 3309 cases for $66 and free ship best ive seen on the price point, T-IV and the WS ATF fluids are made by MOBIL specific to the trans the others are clones or multi vehicle types,

Here’s an update. I was actually pretty hard on acceleration after cleaning maf and doing an ecu reset. feeling the difference in responsiveness on acceleration I couldn’t help it lol and az drivers are dicks

 

that sucks. im getting at least 22mpgs regularly with a 2.7l auto 4x4 stock setup, I cant figure out why your numbers are that low ive never gotten under 19mpgs since ive got my truck, maybe its the brand of gasoline ur using.

 

My truck has 31s and is an auto 4cylinder and i get about 18.5mpg approximate

 

That’s pretty bad. I have a 2.7 4x4 3rd gen with 70k running 285s (33inch tire) , auto trans. I’m getting 17 combined and 19 highway.

stock the truck got average 22mpg and sometimes up to 26 highway.

ive noticed a lower MPGs with using the Winter gas mix now im getting V6 type MPGs

 

that’s always going to happen with winter gas. Almost every vehicle suffers no matter what. It’s the blend.

 

im down to 19.3 MPGS with stock everything, ive noticed using COSTCO winter blend I always get worse than others

 

With my 2006 4-speed automatic A340E, I did a few drain & fills at 60k, another at 90k, then a full pan drop/filter replacement at 120k. Now doing drain & fills only every 30k (mostly light usage). Didn't notice much difference in performance except last time I used "compatible" fluid and the shifts are slightly odd, sometimes --- I will be using OEM fluid going forward (Toyota T-IV or Mobil 3309). Not worth saving $10 every 30,000 miles.
