When assembling the Gates idler pulleys (part 36173), I couldn't find where the shim is supposed to go.

Do they go together in this order, with sleeve on outside (EDIT: From responses below, THIS IS CORRECT)

Or this order, with sleeve on inside?

Bushing should be on the outside, I do believe.

Thanks all, and thanks for the quick response. I also verified with a FJC post where someone inspected both possibilities. If you put the sleeve on the inside, the belt doesn't visually ride as well on the pulley.

Did anyone put the plate washer back on behind the pulley with the new Gates pulley?

I did, and checked out where the belt sits after. It seems these pulleys stick out a tad further than OEM, so the belt sits on the very back of the gates pulley. If I were to do again, I'd skip the washer.

I have to go back to replace another since waiting for shipping, so I'll likely remove the washer when I'm in there again in the next week or so.

If I recall, the mounting boss on the timing cover is rather narrow. A thin washer with 10mm ID in the back is a good idea to increase the surface area that makes contact with the timing cover.

Thanks for feedback. I actually added a larger diameter washer on the back but it’s been too cold to work on it in the garage lately.
