Think I’m going out for a 3rd rifle OTC tag. Still not sure what GMU I’ll try.

Have a first season elk cow tag that I drew, then I picked up a Bull tag (4th season) and Bear tag OTC. Hope to get something on the two season I am out

Damn sounds like a good time. I didn’t put in this year because I was still trying to figure all this shit out. Gets confusing with all the preference points and shit but I’ll definitely be putting in next year. I was looking at a few areas near Nucla but it’s a far drive for me to scout.

Sounds like an awesome season. Wish I had a cow tag but it’s bull only for OTC so we will see. Going to be my first hunt in CO so it’s a chore scouting all the different units. Trying to find someplace with limited roads so I can get away from people quick. I have no issue with a 4 mile packout, just want to make it worth the hike.

I pretty much gave up hunting public land in Colorado years ago because of the people and their idiocy. I have access to family land out east, but every year there seems to be more extended family and friends going out there, and some of the ranches we used to hunt on leased out to outfitters. There's still good hunting in this state, I know that. I'm just over dealing with people. Getting close to that point with fly fishing anymore..

Sounds like you're hunting and fishing in the wrong places.

Plenty of seldom used public lands if you're willing to put in just a little more effort than most will. :spy:

No shit. Whatever happened to just buying a hunting license and being legal to hunt whatever animal was legal with whatever weapon was legal during an open season?

My buddy has a 1st rifle elk tag in GMU 15 so I was just up there this weekend scouting. It’s thick, nasty and seems like it will require a lot of bushwhacking to get to good areas.

Well, 4x4's acting up, won't go into 4-Hi. Probably the actuator, but before I go get the truck up on jack stands any tips on removing it?

No doubt there's good land and water to hit. I've got 85k on my 16 Tacoma, so I get out there to the "right" spots quite often. Some people just haven't been taught about etiquette.

Our hunting area is a 8 mile hike from where our camp is. Last year there was our group and we saw 3 other people. Wasn’t bad, and my friend got his first elk.

I saw a good group two years ago, the one time I couldn’t get a tag :annoyed: Hopefully they are back this year while I have a tag. The wife REALLY wants a bear rug, and I want stew :fingerscrossed:

If you ever need a rundown on the point system let me know, had to help my friend who just moved here from Pennsylvania, he was super confused

Nice! I have some good areas scouted down in the Sangres they should be pretty empty. I think I have the points system figured out but I’ll let ya know if it’s still confusing me.

Bear sounds fun, but in the 200+ miles I’ve covered on foot in the backcountry in the last year I haven’t seen a single bear. Seems like a tough hunt.
