They're smarter than most birds.
Corvid family (crows, ravens, jays).

Young Blue Jays flock together after fledging and go looking for trouble.
Those are the ones making a racket.

I live just far enough north that during cold winters I sometimes see Gray Jays.
I see them (and hear them!) deep in the woods during late Grouse season in January.
You won't see them anywhere near populated areas...here, at any rate.
I think I heard that Canucks call 'em Goonies.
