    Just to add...

    Yes.
You know, when you look at a map showing a species' range, it's highly deceptive.
It's all about habitat in a particular place...and, by extension, land use.

To use another example besides deep forest, there are birds that prefer farmland.
I can hear and locate Meadowlarks, Killdeer and Vesper Sparrows there, among other characteristic farmland birds.
    They're like old, familiar friends.
If you encounter one of those in the deep woods...it's going from somewhere to somewhere else.
But it's damn unlikely you will. :p

Anyway, the eastern woodlands and its flora and fauna are fascinating.
And you better believe you can readily get into some deep woods plenty of places.
Like where I live, with a State Forest practically in my backyard.

I've been to California, and my impression is there are vast areas in the interior remote from civilization.
    Thank Goodness, huh? :)

Okay, you really do speak my language. I am a wildlife biologist, so besides a passion, birding is a job task and skillset.

Vespers are rare in my area, but we do occasionally get a vagrant. Big ass sparrow with white outer retrices.

I see a marmot in that last picture.
It's where it should be...away from human habitations.
Our version is called groundhog...and it ain't.
    Want ours?

    Great pictures.
