I added PowerStop drilled and slotted rotors and their proprietary pads. I also at the same time went from 31" tires to 33" tires. Crap Tacoma brakes are gone and well worth the investment. Definitely worth the pennies. Because I'm cheap I stayed with the stock calipers instead of the pretty aftermarket powder coated version.

Why didn’t you just upgrade to the 231mm Tundra calipers?

Been running the drilled and slotted too for 10 years. Super happy with them.
Don’t want larger rims and tires

Yeah I'm super happy with them too.

It's amazing the gibberish you can hear about different things. Most people I talked to said drilled and slotted rotors would make it shake. It's solid as a rock and stops quite a bit quicker.

My wife's ex-husband just got done adding bigger Tundra calipers onto his 4Runner. Big caliper on a basic rotor vs smaller caliper high end rotor whatever tomatoe tomotoe he's a douchebag and I ain't doing anything he does or did except for his ex wife.

I'll put it this way, it stops better with the PowerStop rotors and pads with 33's better than stock with a stock tire. Much better IMO.

I had brake issues until I found Power Stop drilled and slotted rotors (on my 2001). recommended them and Truck and Tow pads because of the extra weight. Along with steel braided lines and fresh fluid!

I just had a 4-wheel brake job done on mine at the dealer. $902:anonymous: The labor alone was $700-that's like $233hr. so:anonymous::anonymous::anonymous:

That's crazy. The boat shop I worked at was $120 an hour.

Replacing the front pads and rotors isn't that hard of a job. In a nutshell, pry the calipers open with a couple big flat head screwdrivers using the old pads, make sure to properly grease the pins, knock off the old brake rotors with a rubber mallet, put it all back together and have a friend help bleed the lines. Rear brake pads rarely need replacing, only minor adjustments with a screwdriver using the adjustment hole.

Duralast Max ceramic front and rear pads $93.98 (4Runner). They come with replacement springs and anti squeal lube.

I just bought them but haven't installed them yet.

    I do my own work.

The invoice says that they had to turn both rotors and one of the rear drums was warped (never an indication to me) so they replaced that drum and had to turn the other. So brakes all-round and that labor.
    Total parts was $276.87
    Total labor was $700 even.
    A supposed 97.68 "10%" discount added. $902.72 total.
Funny thing is, none of my wear indicators sounded off on the old set so I had no idea how worn they were.
This is the FIRST set of rear brakes ever on my truck-always needed fronts but not rears. The last brake job I got was in 2012, costed $569.26 BUT they replaced the front rotors on that one.
Bottom line is labor. Their shop rate's a killer.
