I am sorry you had to go through this.

But how best to help keep your head during a critical defense situation?????

    Training.

If you have little to no training, then you will be less likely to be able to keep your wits about you.

My training started early from having a very strict Military Father and then going into the Army at the age of 17. Drill Sargent's yelling did not effect me much.

I see your point but crack heads and gang bangers usually do not target trailer parks.

Funny you said that because Alabama is where his crime spree started he was going up and down I-20 robbing houses to feed his drug habit. The majority of His charges were in Alabama. He is currently serving time in Alabama.

Apologies for derailing this AR-15 thread. I just wanted everyone to know that both times I had a situation. My first thought was not to grab an AR but to grab a pistol. Now back to our regular scheduled programing :burnrubber:

That’s a training/mindset/ease of access thing though, not really apples to apples.

I have a bump helmet with electronic hearing protection (and PVS14) on a stand right next to my OTAL equipped AR by my bed. As I mentioned before, low recoil rounds can be found for those concerned about overpenetration or excessive recoil from a shotgun.

Ref the previous discussion about ARs vs shotguns vs pistols

If you’re gonna move around the house in the dark investigating a noise etc, pistol is way easier to maneuver and actually clear rooms and go through doorways in the low ready

Don’t get me wrong, there’s a rifle nearby too, but I also live in the woods and i prefer long guns for exterior stuff...and I love rifles...I have just as many long guns as I do handguns but I don’t subscribe to them as best for interior offensive situations

Ballistics are important but so is being able to quickly and easily move about the interior of your home

As Tom also touched on, home invasions don’t always happen at night, and in fact most occur during the day and it’s a million times easier to keep a pistol on you. Pistols are also much easier to store safely from kids in little biometric lockboxes that tuck into, under, or on top of a nightstand or desk or anywhere else

DD with fsb cutout. My friend helped me install it on the bcm upper. Getting the factory fsb off was a bitch.

    This!
I keep a rifle handy for sure, but pistol is either on my hip, on the nightstand, or on the coffee table. Remember, while not ideal, you may have to go outside, and will still want protection, and need to transform quickly to concealed.

I can’t think of any situation in which I need to get outside quickly with a firearm but want to carry it concealed. If it’s a situation that requires both a firearm and the urgency to be outside now the firearm is useless concealed.

I heard an excessively loud banging on my door, I was in the shower and heard my dogs, but they kept barking, so I knew something was amiss (dress quick, holster/gun/belt ready as always). Teenager now beating on neighbor's door, other neighbors start to come out. Police are called. Love struck teenager, no speak English, looking for his chica at wrong houses.
Stupid? Yes, but he didn't need to be shot, nor I did need to be unarmed (especially since I didn't know his story until it was all over), nor did I need to walking around with a gun in my hand when the police cars came flying up from both directions.
Story shortened, gotta go to work:D
