    Contractor.
Built some houses, did a fair bit of insurance repair (fire /flood).
Mostly did trim subcontracting though. Less responsibility... good, steady money.
I always liked working with my hands...and the idea of sitting at a desk all day makes me frantic.

I have a confession to make.
And maybe some of you can relate something similar.

My Mom was determined that I be well educated and get degree(s).
I worked part-time and my parents paid the rest.
Did that...and never used the degrees (B.A. in History, M.A. in Historical Demography).
It turned out that my choices were basically work for the government or teach.
I hadn't thought that one through.

I already despised most people in so-called Academia.
(Universities, mind you, not high school, etc. Nor people in hard sciences.)
For their infighting (personal politics) and their...um...politics in general. If you know what I mean.
It's my experience that certain kinds of people self-select for certain fields.
Work for the government? Ugh. Same same.

I can be very, ahem... abrasive towards people feeding me a line of bullshit.
    So it just wasn't happening.

Oh well. Parents, don't do that.
College ain't what it used to be. And it's gotten far worse since I was a student.
Steer your kids towards something technical and useful. :p

Anyway, it was good for one thing:
I met the future lovely, sainted and formidable Mrs Gritto.
Who is a retired teacher, BTW.
I had to buy out her last year so she could get her full pension.
Boy, did she ever deserve it.
She couldn't take it any more.

So....All's well that ends better. :)

    Hey there Kevin
    Hi Plumber... back ok?
    Hi Farmer:)
Morning Gritto. I did construction for 15 years before I switched jobs 7 years ago. My favorite by far was concrete work! I’ve trimmed a few houses in my day. I can do everything except plumbing...that was a job I wasn’t interested in learning @Kolunatic

I've had to do concrete from time to time.
It's hard on one's hands. So I'm kinda surprised at you.
Plumbing? I did the rough-in for my addition and can solder when something needs fixed.
Other than that, ugh. Ain't doing that. :p
