Yah it shouldn’t matter for the HU it’s the same connections since 2012. Sounds like I just got some incorrect info from the store. He’s telling me I should order the CanBus version. Go figure.

yah mirror works fine. I modded my 2013 (I swapped in a 2015 Nav Unit) so I had it going to bo the the mirror and the HU. Based on @DaMaDo and then the seller I needed to get the canbus cb004. The ad only had cb005 which is the JBL one. I ordered that so well see. It prob makes sense why the enter and return buttons (2014/2015 Steering wheel) do not work. I believe those may be on the same connector.

I was searching the XDA forumns but did not see any good results. My apps periodically just close ie: Pandora for example. Anyone know an update to fix this? PX6 9.0 HU.

Enter and return don’t work on a 2015 steering wheel because the Tacoma has 3 swc wires and the headunit only has 2 key inputs. I covered this in the other thread a 220ohm resistor and combining the swc 2 and 3 wires from the steering wheel will fix this.

    Speaking of Harman Spark...

I thought about picking one up but ended up with a Nighthawk on my existing data plan after seeing the motion timeouts with the Spark.

good to know have not heard much about the spark but its the standard setup on ATT.

Was not sure the options but saw the spark but will look into the night hawk. tethering is a pain and always seems to drop.

Is it beneficial running an obd2 hotspot with these HU? What's the benefit?

I've found the spark, but can't find anything about the nighthawk? Is that a nighthawk router? Or is the nighthawk obd2 as well. I have Verizon as my carrier. Looks like the spark is ATT only, correct?

I've been looking at Mofi units. They make a combo kit that's for 12v applications. Usable on most networks and the price is about the same as the Spark or Nighthawk.

I don't claim to be super knowledgeable about these things. I've just been looking around at all the options.

not sure, I am also trying to figure it out. I guess for OBD its always there and does not need to be charged because its off the OBD. The NightHawk is a hot spot which is different but does the same thing.

I'd assume you can run GAIA GPS on this also right?

I saw a note that you could. I dl it to the HU but have not tested it yet. It mainly runs off the GPS or downloaded maps. The one thing is you would need to have the storage handy for offline maps.

You want to use some sort of data hotspot to make use of maps, music, etc. The OBD2 plug-in hotspots are convenient and cheap but I've noticed that they have quirky time outs when the vehicle is not in motion for so many minutes. They also can not be used outside of the vehicle, as per use agreement with the carrier. I opted for the Nighthawk hotspot because it could simply be added to my existing data plan as another device and I can take it out of the truck if I want. It also will never time out due to motion requirements. It's plugged in to a USB port on my Dasaita and fed to the glovebox.

Yes, I have Gaia running on mine. It was one of the main reasons I wanted this setup. It appears they have somewhat abandoned efforts to make a CarPlay app.

ah a carplay app would have been a nice add.

Good points on the nighthawk. I was going back and forth on that as well. If I was parked more than 30 min it sounds like the spark would cut out or turn of which would be a bummer. Other differences I see as well is $79 (spark) vs Night hawk ($249) and the monthly costs is $25 vs $15 (they charge less for Auto only setups). Not the end of the world but something to consider.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance, but isn't that just the same thing as hot spot off of your phone? Or is there more benefit of paying 200 plus for a nighthawk?

My problem with trying to use my phone as the hotspot was that iPhones require you to go to the phone's "Personal Hotspot" screen and toggle the hotspot off/on every single time I got in the truck. Even then it would take a few minutes for the phone to broadcast the hotspot. I want to be able to just get in the truck, not have to touch my phone and have the HU grab my hotspot right away. The Nighthawk was the solution to this.

I should also add, the Nighthawk was $183.84 including tax from AT&T
