Do some research and see how much science goes in to it. Definitely not the easiest thing to predict.

Used to do a bit of work in the super computer field. Years ago, a Japanese company built the moral equivalent of a data center full of machines specifically for the study of forecasting science. The could barely work with an area the size of a city block-there are so many variables required to make accurate predictions. Sure, the very short term forecast (like a couple of hours from now) is better but still no where near perfect. Long range forecasting is even harder although very general forecasts are OK.

It's possible now to isolate the conditions necessary to produce extreme events but locating exactly where those conditions will all be present in small scale events is still next to impossible. Likely, yes, detectable after the fact, yes, but for now a warning for a general area where they might come together is the best they can do. Even then, "might" isn't a certainty. Still bettor than no warning at all.

Sorry to change the subject and interrupt all you pontificating pinheads and bickering blowhards, but I’m celebrating a wedding anniversary today. So, here’s to me, and my awesome bride.

Just pounded two of these before going out for dinner.
