i was at Applejack's and decided my best option at that moment, because i was looking for more than 90 proof, was Maker's Private Select. i wasn't looking for Maker's because we always have a bottle here, but it's my wife's favorite. it's grown on me a little over the years, but i always find it too opaque or dry wood to enjoy it much.

so actually this one is pretty good because it's exactly that, a much clearer and smoother Maker's experience without that factor and with a good whack of proof under it. really enjoyed it!

but I'm still curious about this sweet flavor i hear about coming sometimes from a wheat source or some blend with it.

 

Unknown still. Still trying to lower my open inventory... High hopes though!

 

In know they carry it for a fact. They had their own barrel pick and they held one for the LSA Burger company, as their group did a barrel too.

 

i spoke with the buyer guy and he's basically a slave to allocations and admitted as much.

 

That’s odd, 1792 has never been anything to allocate. And I went directly there and got a full proof pick a few months back.

I did a little cooking today so that we'd have some BBQ to eat during the tasting .

Brisket needed a little longer rest, so it is a tad on the dry side. I have slices vacuum sealed with some au jus - it'll do the trick after a little sous vide reheating tonight .

Ribs turned out fantastic.

 

Ya it doesn’t look as juicy as yours normally come off.

Spotted this being set up in a display today... Wasn't for sale due to Corey Taylor (Slipknot and Stone Sour lead singer who's from Iowa) going to be on location to sign bottles. Thankfully, I'm already double booked on Saturday and can avoid that chaos!

 

Taking a break from the firewater for a month with wifey for sober October. Will be nice to catch up 11/1. See ya’ll then.
