recently i started to second guess my purchase of my second gen. Mostly because even though i wanted an automatic this time ive been missing shifting like like my first truck which was a 98 tacoma. Anyway this ‘02 trd has 128k. Dusty in pic but pretty damn clean inside out and under. Shifts really well. Looks like it was really taken care of. Asking 14 but owner was out of town. Checked it out with his father and he had said 13$ would probably be lowest hed take. I know you cant go off bluebook on these. What would you pay? Out of the loop on 1st gen pricing. Sorry only the one pic

Seems pretty reasonable to me if it is in great condition. I got $12,500 for my white 2002 Trd 4x4 5M w/ 167k in 2015. Also sold a 2004 w/ 148k in 2016 for $13,500. It’s crazy how these trucks hold their value, more so than any vehicle from 98-2004 (percentage wise)

Ok cool thanks. I was thinking the price wasn’t horrible just wasn’t sure. Especially if i could get it for 12.5. I think i might have to pull the trigger

a kbb cash deal at the local dealer would yield probably $4k to maybe $5k
assuming this scheme is standard across the country

    @Slvr14tacoma keep looking around.

128k is pretty low mileage for a 1st gen, but for an access cab I think that price is still quite a bit high.

Where you at anyway? I'm in central CA and check out the market from time to time in case I want to pick up another 1st gen.

KBB is worthless for these trucks. Manual 4x4 trd offroad is one of the most desired options and it fetches a premium for low mileage and clean condition.

$13k is probably a premium but not a huge one. $11k would be a pretty good deal i think. $15k would probably be a dealer cost.

You have the cap too which you can sell for $500 or so or keep and then save $800-$2000 on buying a new one. I have that shell and i hate that it doesnt have windoors but otherwise it is well made.

Where I live 1st gens that are both low-mile AND rust-free are very rare. I'd gladly pay 13K for that.

If you’re happy with the truck and can get it for 13 I think you’ll learn to accept it alright enough. I paid quite a bit too much for mine but I’m still glad I snagged one with all the stuff I wanted which was 144k miles double cab 4x4 and rear locker and black in color. I justified the hit bc I work hard and , dammit, I wanted the ole girl as soon as I saw her.

The other thing to consider is if it's worth it to YOU, and you can afford it.

There are people who'd pay (and HAVE paid) upwards of $20k recently for low mileage trucks in good condition. That doesn't really mean anything to you, though.

It doesn't really matter what someone else is willing to pay for it. If the price seems too high to you, or can't afford it, find another one more to your liking.

If you like it enough to pay that much, go for it, and don't worry if someone else says it's only worth $5k or something. There will *always* be someone else who got one for cheaper.

$13k is way to high but that’s just my opinion because something is worth what someone is willing to pay.

Hard to say until you see it in person and get more info on it. But let’s say everything is on par, $10k max. Me personally $10k is also Double Cab price range.

What’s up with the mechanical history?

Timing belt? Shocks and struts? Fluids?

I just bought my 2002 with painted topper for 10k—did all the fluids myself and got the timing belt replaced. All in it was about 11k and that’s the most I would’ve paid.

I’d try and negotiate down a little

Come to California, there were a few, and might still be listed for around $10k, maybe under if I remember. But if you’re curious (as cat) do the research on CL and FB in California.

Gee. If only there was some kind of free service that did nothing besides keep track of actual sold prices of THOUSANDS of sold vehicles. unfortunately all we can do is ask 10 random people on 1 forum...

Does this magic service report on private party sales?

I’m not really sure how they'd collect that data, though.

its basic supply and demand which i think is a big factor?

i often look at the NADA tables for valuation, an insurance agent told me they prefer this table (or very similar behind their closed doors) as opposed to kbb table
    check it out!

most likely from registration and/or sales tax data?
