Hahahaha I accidentally did a multiple quote. I wish I knew how to do it on purpose hahahaha!

I was high and thinking "GQ has got to know drum brakes don't have calipers..." hahahaha I can be such an idiot. I get it, you want them to match. I thought I deleted that qoute and comment but it doesn't look like I did lol

It is not the price that dictates quality.
Did this whole scenario in the shop management classes, the perception is part of it, if your dealer charges 150 per hr, to stay competitive AND show you are worth a customers time you should charge no less than 100 per hr unless other independent shops are charging more.

the perception is the dealer has all the correct parts and current training to keep the vehicle at peak OEM... the independent shop is just as good, but may not have the latest in training. Unfortunately all the new “techs” are the ones that bring the quality down as does the dealership itself by paying the “tech” in the old outdated pay scale of “flat rate” not to mention service writers that care more about CSR scores than your vehicle.

which is why I left mechanics finally this year.

In general I found that independent shops attracted and retained some of the best and most knowledgeable mechanics and support staff. The run down greasy looking ones with 5 or 6 guys hanging around one car or eyeballing your car hard, are the shops that need to be avoided. There is obviously more to this, parts, uniforms, cleanliness, but, I think you get the idea.

I definitely agree with this comment much more than the other one you wrote in this thread. Well said.

    Cool idea/project.

Calipers will be fairly easy to remove. The powder coating shop shouldn't have any issues powder coating calipers. You'll need to bleed the brakes after you put it back together so it'll be a huge asset to have a friend help you with that part of the job. You're going to want a couple containers for the brake fluid to leak into once the calipers are removed.

the other was just a broad generalization.

another bit is the shop/dealer should be spending more money on the service department and training than any other department, as service drives sales and parts and a disgruntled service person is gonna tell everyone that asks that the shop is to be avoided. Damn good 3 months of training, see so many shops that just don’t get it, instead of boosting morale and ensuring employees are happy to come to work they put in crap like coffee bars and lunch counters...

food was good, but, how was the service of your rig?
Worked for a bike shop that had a lunch counter, petting zoo and ice cream stand...
They went out of business 12 months after opening the new wing... service manager was never there, parts didn’t give a damn and labor was close to 200 per hr.....Honda bikes ain’t Ferrari’s.
