So this is kinda a departure from the country vs. rock debate. I was thinking of the blue Tacoma song. My 11year old daughter and I like taking rides in the truck and after listening to the song she wanted to make a song about out Tacoma. Well that got me to thinking (dangerous thing that it is), it would be hilarious if one of the Tacoma world vendors had a parady contest for the blue Tacoma song and gave out prizes for the funniest ones.

I’ve had my license for over 8 years now. The law has always been that it’s illegal to pass a school bus with flashing lights and an extended stop sign.

Today, for the first time in more than 8 years, I encountered a situation I’ve never encountered before...

There is a three-way intersection just steps from my house, with three stop signs. I normally turn left, but there was a school bus there picking up kids. Since the school bus was caddy-corner to me on the left, on a different street, and not in front of me, I looked both ways and proceeded slowly through the intersection, going straight instead of left. Also, for some reason the kids were just standing there at the open bus door...

Going straight prompted an angry honk and a “WTF?” gesture from the bus driver.

Seriously, I’ve never encountered a scenario where the school bus was picking up kids on a side street. I did not think it was against the law unless the school bus was directly in front of you. If it is against the law, then it was an honest mistake and I will not do it again.

Also, there are certain stretches of road I will go out of my way to avoid at certain times because getting stuck behind a school bus can add 10-15 minutes to my trip!

I was just confused by the layout. I have literally never encountered a bus on a side street EVER.

Also, it’s legal to proceed if the road is divided.

 

I've seen a bus picking up kids in the middle of the street. As long has his doors are open and his lights flashing, everyone must stop

 

You seriously won't say the same thing when someone is breaking into your house and they come to save you

Or when they arrest a drunk old man who hits my truck and does $2,200 in damage.

 

It's simple. If there's a bus stopped anywhere near you with flashing lights....you don't move....ever

 

So ticketing someone for causing an accident makes the cop an ass? You have a very warped view of authority

I didn’t say he was an ass. My friend has to pay a deductible on a totaled car, and his rates will probably go up. I think it’s unfair to give someone a ticket in a simple fender bender with no injuries, and where drug, alcohol, or texting and driving were not a factor.

So my friend is effectively being punished three times for a fender bender.

 

I know this now. I admit I was wrong. I had seriously never encountered a situation like this. EVER. I encounter school buses almost daily on straightaways, but I’d never encountered a situation where a school bus was stopped on a side street. I seriously thought I only had to stop if I was going left. I talked with my coworker today and was surprised too, so we both learned something.

 

And if I ended up in the situation that Ali3n’s dad ended up in with his Nissan Frontier, I’d probably hate police forever.
