That is a perfect assessment. Same goes to those really posh luxury models in the full size market.

Yeah, brain fart time. Guess I am showing my age! It was the Gladiator used in the trial. My neighbor when I lived in MD in the late '80s had a Comanche and we used it for a variety of projects including taking roof shingles to the dump. They are heavy and the truck went to the bump stops over several trips, but did the job. I had a Rabbit diesel pickup at the time which was a great vehicle, but not for hauling heavy loads

Damnit you got me excited for a second like they were building an actual Comanche truck again but better and taking over what the Dakota use to be.

    hah some truth in that

it is great having a bed though, thats the entire reason i have a taco instead of a 4runner. I did the whole utility trailer thing for many years with our other SUV and its just a pain

for as much flak as the midsize trucks get from some quarters, they really are amazing and very capable vehicles. If you live in the suburbs/small acreage they can do 95% of what a full size is called upon to do. Going from mid to full is mostly hobby-specific in that market. Slide-in campers, larger RV trailers, etc. Of course if you get into larger acreage, livestock, etc thats a different story and a different market

Most of the full size trucks being bought now a days are giant luxury vehicles with a ridiculous amount of amenities and features haha- a pure American status symbol

This. A good chunk of owners don’t even tow or haul with them. They’ve become such a status symbol. While it’s a major outlier, I even know a guy who’s towed more weight collectively over the years in his old Subaru station wagon than most full-size or 3/4 ton owners.

The only other truck I would own, if Tacomas didn't exist, is the early 80s Dodge D50/Mitsubishi Mighty Max. That fuggin truck was awesome. I miss mine.

When you sell millions of Tacoma's every year,Toyota could careless about some magazine that gives their personal review.Motor Week is so dumb, they cannot even get the truck names correct,it was the Gladiator not a Comanche that was reviewed, lol
