newb needs taco help

I just got my first truck (00 4x4 2.7) and im looking to see if you guys have any good suggestions with mods to start off with. I work alot of construction and here in texas sometimes it will rain out of nowhere like today and my truck got stuck pretty fast even in 4lo.

Ima highschool student and pay for everything myself so money isnt in loads here

Any suggestions would be awsome guys.

 

probably a small lift and some good tires would be a good start, and that would serve you well really. then, you could save up for intake or high flow filter and maybe an exhaust if you wanted one.

what were you thinking of doing??

Welcome to TW. I just thought a fun project would be to do the deck plate mod that everybody loves on the forum. It sounds cool and does the same as a cold air, but with out the money. Check it out. As far a getting stuck...you can't do much more than new tires and a lift.

 

i was gonna mention the deck plate mod, but im not sure it can be done on the 4cyl as opposed to the 3.4 v6.

You can do it on the 4 banger but you need a smaller deckplate.

My opinion... I had a 99 trd with 3 inch body lift(cheap) and then 32x11.50x15 mud treads not very expensive tires i have pics in my gallery of my old truck.... But that truck would go anywere!!!!!!!!

 

trd man how hard was the body lift and did it reallt give you 3 inches oh and what tires did you have

how would you add a turbo to a tacoma i was thinking about that the other day i used to have a subaru sti and i miss the turbo!

 

Easily, well, on the 4banger it is. You are able to run with the stock fuel system as long as you are running low boost ie. 5-6lbs. Which i plan to do. With a garett t3/t4 turbo intercooled.

It's definitely do-able, I just did it last week on my four banger. A three inch hole is all you can fit if you intend to put the deck plate on tho. I went a little bigger and just said screw it

 

It will be a daily-driver-but-not-far-offroad-truck hahaha. A guy that works with me has a 97 v6 with camburg a arms, S/C, and a 3' lift and a lsd in the back. He said he would sell me one (lsd) that just has to have bearings put in it for $200. Is it worth it?

 

I'd kill for LSD, bearings are cheap. I'd get it! Especially after the turbo

 

Eh, I dont know about the turbo, seems like to much work. I was thinkin S/C but i dont know if i can find one for a I4

 

For one, turbo is cheaper and will give you A LOT more gain than a supercharger. Im in highschool also, so my funds are a little limited too, but im going to make this work. Check out some of the badass boosted tacos on www.customtacos.com
