To prove your point, mine is going to be listed for somewhere in the $400 range when I get ready to sell it. Full suspension, hydraulic disk brakes, but a 2006. Its a great bike, just old.

Will do! I should be coming down Friday, not sure of the time or my availability once I get down there though. I'd say we'll shoot for Friday afternoon or Saturday afternoon depending on what works. I'll send you a text once I know what our schedule will be like while I'm there.

 

Do you think they will fit my 2nd gen? I don't know why I didn't think about this! lol My 2nd gen is an access cab too.

 

You could give it a shot, but most likely you'd run in to the same issue.

 

Honestly, I think the 3rd gens are a hair wider between the frames, than the 2nd gens. I'll have to take a measurement to verify though.

 

If you want, just throw them up there with some jack stands and see if there's clearance. If not, should be pretty obvious. I wouldn't waste too much time trying to make them fit.

I'd be down sometime. Just have to figure out when. My dad and I are planning a trip for December sometime, sort of an annual father-son trip. Last time we went, we did a trail called the Fiery Gizzard at the Savage Gulf up in Tennessee. Did 27 miles in 2 days. Was a bit brutal, but we had a great time.

 

So which do you think is more physically demanding? Backpacking or mt biking?

 

Damn, we're not THAT hardcore! lol Jeannie and I have done the Adam's Gap loop on Cheaha in 2 days, I think it's 22 miles. We're talking about just hiking in away from civilization, setting up camp/hammocks/tents and just chilling out by the fire!

Cheaha would be a great place to get started to see where everyone's limits are!

 

Don't think I've done Adam's Gap before. Mostly done parts of the Pinhoti when hiking up there. Its a great area to truly get away from stuff.

 

So what packs are yall carrying?

 

Yes, it's beautiful up there! The Chinnabee Silent trail is a great short day hike. I want to say it's a 1000 ft elevation change in 2 miles.

 

I would say an average of 7-10 miles depending on trails is my capability. Looking at Oak Mtn though I might can do more. Honestly I don't measure distance that much, usually an hour of riding with breathers lol.

Me and my dad both have Keltys. Mine's so old, I forget what model it is. I'll have to look. Its a solid pack though, no frills, just comfortable and good for packing stuff.

 

I had a Kelty, but it was uncomfortable to me. We bought Ospreys and haven't looked back since! Awesome to see someone else with backpacking experience!
