Meh, no skin off my teeth. Offer is there.
I have probably done more brake jobs on tacomas than the tech that worked on your truck.

I knew this was going to turn into this.
Not everyone wants to work on their own cars.
    Not everyone has the time.
    Or the skills.
    Or the tools.
Some people would rather just spend a little extra to let people do what they are good at.
Then they can spend time making money doing what they are good at.
Of course I could clean my own apartment, or do my own laundry, change my own oil.
But I make more money doing other things, and I support other professionals, and the economy at the same time.

I totally agree. I think it's just the way the dealer operates and the price that is triggering people. Not you paying someone to do a professional job.

Totally fair. It's different math for everyone. In a lot of cases I can get the work done faster, cheaper, and sometimes better than a shop, without leaving my driveway. But that isn't true for all.

That said, 600 bucks for front brakes is wildly expensive, no matter who is doing it. It pays to shop around.

Toyota kind of has a lock on the Toyota dealer market around here. Not much to shop around.

SoCal dealerships are notoriously expensive but the one in Hollywood is one of the worst. I would look at other nearby dealerships and at least compare quotes.

FYI Pasadena Toyota is also stupid expensive, don't go there

$600 for a brake job sounds absolutely insane, especially for only being the front on resurfaced rotors.

For the prices these dealers charge you could buy premium parts AND the tools for the job while still saving money. I can see not wanting to change out a head gasket yourself, but brakes? Takes less time to do your own brakes than it does to set up an appointment and drive to/from the shop in a lot of cases.

It literally takes one phone call.
Luckily I have space to work on my truck if I wanted. But again a lot of people don’t and it’s illegal to work on vehicles on city streets.
