I paid $320 to replace just the fronts in Denver at a Toyota Dealership. Replaced at 55k and they weren’t all the way worn just did it cause I was driving across country with a trailer (they had just started to squeak).

    Just called Toyota of Hollywood.
    126 each for new rotors.
So 300 is odd. Definitely seems like they’re shady.
Going by in person to ask their reasoning.
    Keep you guys posted.

Yeah I’m the only idiot crazy enough to get their front brakes done at Toyota.
    Definitely.

Maybe because the 300=labor. The 126 each for the part doesnt include labor?

I will admit I paid $100 to have an extended rear brake line installed, I supplied the part. Took the dude all of 12 minutes to install.

But that was before I was adventurous and atleast attempted to do my own work.

Some of you guys are hilarious.
I honestly enjoy some of your country ass perspectives. Real “small towny” like in the movies or tv.
    It’s romantic.
You wouldn’t last a second out here, but it’s cute.

I think the "Hey, do the work yourself it is really easy and won't take any time at all!" crowd means well, I really do. I also think they have a hard time understanding what it is like for someone who is not mechanically inclined, doesn't have any tools, and has never really done anything to their vehicle before more complicated than checking the oil.
    • What tools do I need? Ok, I have to go buy those. These two seem really similar, which is the one I need? Which is better quality? How much should I spend?
    • Where can I work on my vehicle? I don't have a garage/level driveway/whatever
    • Wait, I have to jack the vehicle up? How do I do that? Where is the jack? How do I use it? Where is the jack point on my vehicle? I'd better get the manual and find out. Is it safe?
    • How do I get the wheel off? What tools do I need for that?
    • Ok, now I'm ready to actually do the brakes. Let me watch this youtube video while I'm doing it, rewinding a thousand times to check that I'm doing the thing they are doing. Wait, is that the right bolt? Where does that clip go? I'm pulling and it won't come out, will I break it?
    • etc etc etc etc
The first time? That is going to take hours. You're right, it's not that hard. Totally learn-able. I'm having fun learning how to do things on my truck the longer I own it. That said, what's easy/quick for you isn't easy/quick for everyone.

OP said it best - they'd prefer to pay a pro fair market value for their skills and do something else with their time. The question here is "Is this fair market value? Seems high." Really isn't a need for "Just do it yourself lol" or "stealership lol" or etc etc.

Talking in general about the 'Just do it yourself lol' mindset - comes up in every "What's a fair price for this service?' thread on the site.

I agree with that and then there is usually someone to step up and help to make sure that price savings happens.

    Silly.
Comparing the average yahoo on here to a certified Toyota technician.
The same “just did a Mickey Mouse body lift in my uncles shed now my alignment is fucked up” people.
Or the “what size tires can I fit no lift” guys.

idk man I was on your side but now you're just being a dick and making everyone who lives in this state look like an asshole. :(

It's the SoCal people that are like this, everyone. NorCal people are cool as fuck.
