Somehow I think a rubber was needed in this situation.

Unfortunately, I'd agree that a lot of people on TW would do better work than the Toyota dealership.
Dealership is in it to make money, hence charging people for unneeded items. A certification does NOT mean competence.

600 sounds ballpark for a dealer. It's crazy to be honest, but that's just the way it is. My local mom and pop shop quoted 380 bucks for just pads on my wife's pilot. Even local shops near me are ludicrous. I still dont get why dealers turn rotors , always cheaper and more beneficial to put new on. I guess the margins on turning the rotor are substantial.

Watching a YouTube video doesn't mean competence either. There are many people on here who really are great at working on their vehicles. But there's also plenty of people who think they are great, but not so much. There has been some very shady work posted on here, and every site I've been a member of.

For me, I need my truck to get to work and make $. I can't afford to get going on a easy job, then realize I have the wrong part, I can't do the job, or some other issue. I often pay people to work on the truck, but have done some things such as spark plugs and front pads/rotors.
My motorcycle is a toy, I dont pay people to work on it unless I know I can't do something(hasn't happened yet). If I dont get it done that day, no worry I can survive without it.

    Dont feel bad OP.

Bah! Those are still good for a month or so. You don't have to change them till you're stopping with the backer pad.
Seriously, dude?! What the fuck? No one here has been insulting you or your yuppie ass, wicker-shoe wearing life in the "Big Bad City". You're nothing and will continue to be nothing. Let me know when you want to get your $1,000 Gucci patent leather wedges dirty, and I'll introduce you to real life out here where it gets "real 'small towny'".

Which is why I said "a lot of people", not everyone. The reason I say this is because people are indoctrinated in thinking that dealerships provide better service than everyone else.
That is WRONG. Very very false. I'm a point in life where I make more than enough money to pay someone to work on either of my vehicles, but I don't. Why?? Because I do not trust someone else working on my vehicle.
Say what you want, dealership mechanics are not all competent, and it happens very often where peoples vehicles are compromised by shitty technicians. It's really unfortunate in a way, because there are times I rather not work on my own vehicle.
You want to know the simplest example ? It's very simple, but this is exactly what I'm talking about. I had the locking VW lug nuts removed from my VW and replaced with normal lugs. I had to take it to the dealer for that since they have the key. Guess what?
They never replaced the decorative caps on the nuts. You can say that it's a frivolous mistake, but it's not. Its a lack of attention to detail!

In addition to this, the dealers are in it to make money. Hence the $300 rotor turning mystery meat charge. They are out to take your money. That's just how it is.

I agree with your comments. I do not go to dealer. I use a local independent shop owned by a person I went to HS with. Not "friends" but definitely someone I trust with my safety. He is fair priced and has talked me out of certain things I thought I needed.

Here’s a google search for anyone else not named Rahl who was curious.
    Just what I imagined.
Not sure of their relevance to life in the “big bad city”.

Ridiculous. And a "brake flush" is really necessary at 44,000 miles? What a ripoff.

I get oil and coolant changed at the dealer. I like the filter and not having to dick around with disposal. Plus they have free coffee and argumentive sales poeple. Not to mention that credit i had to spend

All i have to say to you is...

I pay $96 for two rotors and a set of pads. If i do my front and rears, i get a deal for $147. Talk to your local advance auto store and ask about the brake deal. Obviously my price is even lower with my employee discount, but still, talk to the commercial parts pro and see about getting yourself a commercial account (you have to spend at least 500 per year on auto parts, which isnt that hard to do haha) and you are qualified for a commercial account, which can save you a lot of money.
