    This^

You can absolutely do it from home. Just a few min in the living room or wherever. Look up “dime washer drill.” It’s typically for ARs BUT, watching the videos will give the idea behind it. Your trigger pull should surprise you, as in not anticipating it. You can use a dime on your scope if your alone to work on trigger control. It’s free and one of the most basic dry fire practice techniques.

Only one way to keep that joker from recoiling, don’t pull the trigger.
Welcome to Newton’s wonderful world of physics.

I prefer to shoot prone with a bipod with rear bag support. You need to be straight behind the gun, feet about shoulder width apart, ifen you got the flexibility yer ankles should be flat on the ground. You’re looking to dissipate the recoil impulse. I shoot 3Win up to 50 BMG with a dislocated shoulder so to tame these guns I have to roll my shoulders up to get the stock in the “pocket” (shotgunners know what I’m talking about) it’s also about properly loading the bipod as well

Big boomers are a handful to learn on, kinda like buying an S&W Mod 29 as yer first handgun, cause Dirty Harry that’s why

This was me. The first thing I did when I bought my rifle was toss an old Nikon Buckmaster on it, drove to the range, threw down a bag, and shot until my shoulder was blue. LOVED IT! No regrets. I'd still do it again. I have a used hk vp9sk arriving this week.... I'm totally going to pick it up, drive to range, likely unprepared, and shoot it too. I get all excited and gitty over new firearms.

No @broke_down I don’t think it were you.

This guy had paid for a two day rifle clinic to learn how to effectively shoot out 1k yards and would not accept any instruction when we tried to sort him out, even our most patient instructor wanted to kick him in the taint

Went to a long range class and a "gunsmith" was one of our fellow students. He was out with his new rifle build, custom 700 where he'd done the barrel job, pillar bedding, trigge work. Couldn't shoot under a 4" group to save his soul.

Yeah I know, but I do like showing up to the range with new gear and playing with it. Those moments are probably the times I've had the most instruction. Guys want to come check out the gear, those with experience with the equipment share their opinions - I end up learning a lot. I met a guy who hunts in Africa. He was shooting a .458 wm. He had a lot of helpful tips for handling my comparatively little 300wm. Helped me get behind my rifle, drop my seat, and recommended I get a recoil pad so I could put in longer days at the range.

When I do pay for a PLR class to learn to shoot 1k, I'll be trying to get my money's worth in instruction. Once I settle down behind my rifle a bit more, I could probably get a lot out of a class like that.

Buddy conned me into doing a PRS shoot, borrowed his RPR in .308. I couldn’t hit shit with it. We’re talking 3”+ groups at 100?!? Checked the throat when I got home... 0.12” jump to the lands! Somehow managed a few hits on the 1170yrd with it. Needless to say, I needed to redeem myself.

Dusted off my 12lrp and bought some Berger boxed match rounds, which are pretty decent. Wanted to try the 136gn scenar and with Lapua brass was cheaper to get loaded rounds.

18rds, 200yrd, 8mph full value wind gusting to 12mph. High left is my cold bore, remainder are a decent enough cadence of fire.

    On edit:

Big and heavy yes, but dark eagle customs makes some handy dandy 10rd mags based off a standard 4rd mag body. Bonus... a touch more space for COAL than an ACIS/AW mag.

My 12lrp is 15.8lb with glass and a full mag. Not really that much considering I have a single shot .22lr with iron sights that is 10.9lb.

It’s not rocket science.... only a bit of calculus

First step. Focus on your fundamentals: stable position, sight picture, breathing control, trigger squeeze.

    Practice practice practice.

...fast moving projectiles in a gravitational field is rocket science. :alien::transformer:

I'm just fishing for some old-wise-man tips. I know how to fix the flinch. I keep getting better and better, but not respectable yet. I'm young and impatient. Speaking of old-wise-man tips, @shane100700 I ordered the thong and fur hat.
