How are those black widow mufflers??

 

They are catless, and I wont be installing any cats so it should be smooth sailing. Gotta figure out the whole o2 and oxygen sensor piece though bc I dont want any CELs with the UCON or anything.

Replace the heads or the valve covers? I have a 2009 truck with the 2015 engine on the stand. Test fitting 05-11 urd headers on the 2015 engine tomorrow. Will update tomorrow.

 

@12TRDTacoma sings praises and has it posted on the 1st page. Seems solid, have some patent on how they build them I believe as well.

 

ive understood avoiding bully dog is best. if youre starting fresh id opt for the trd flash.

 

yah just seeing what options are if I plan to run HP Tuner on it almost right away. still find it a bit odd that Magnuson sells the tune with it rather than get rights to the TRD or have something similar. I saw some notes on HP Tuner somewhere on the site so they seem to be users of it as well.

 

It wouldn't surprise me if it is just a scare tactic to get people to buy their parts. But I have 0 proof on that.

 

looking to buy a used 2013 ECU anything I need to avoid or consider? Assume get a AT model but anything different about ECUs? There are a bunch on Ebay under $100. Practice or flash the TRD tune onto it.

 

Get the same one as your truck. Remove glove compartment, sneak a phone up in there, take a picture and eBay away.

 

Sure thing. Saw a few posts where there are several models and even Toyota replaced with different ECU number. Wanted to see if there were any other versions if I run into having a hard time finding mine.

 

Since youre running the UCon, you dont need o2 simulators as it has them built in.. i had to run o2 sims when i had the TRD tune, but with the UCon theyre not needed

 

It has been a fantastic muffler honestly. It is on the quieter side as far as exhausts go, but it has a nice growl to it while getting on it and definitely in the 2000-2200 RPM range, which also is where the majority of cruising is done at on the freeway. I could listen to the tone all day long. It definitely freed up some power after switching out from the Aero Turbine 2525XL muffler which is what I ran for years. The venturi design it has definitely helps in evacuating the exhaust gasses better, which is the name of the game for our boosted setups, especially once you are in the lower pulley territory which moves more air by nature in general.

You get a thumbs up from me as far as reviews go at least for the Venom 250 series muffler . Actually, if you want to hear what it sounds like on the truck I posted up a video of it some time ago on the thread. I can repost it if you want to hear it.

How much did the header install run ya? I've got that on my wish list but scared the cost of install and welding will make it too much right now.

It's not the best video to showcase the sound of the muffler. I have been meaning to do a follow up video on the exhaust but keep forgetting to do so because I need a second set of hands to go the camera. I can probably get one tomorrow though if you and @nudavinci64 want a better one.

You can use the BD tuner to convert the ECU Calibration ID to the TRD ID (though with BD’s tuning). Reading that BD flashed ECU with HPT will provide you a virgin TRD tune that you could flash back into the truck or use one of my own tunes based on the TRD.
