Looks like my seal between the t-case and front drive shaft might be leaking a bit. Is this the right seal? @Digiratus - is this one you replaced after F.U.Rain?

Quick question. While driving the truck yesterday I noticed a couple of misfires. Pushed it hard enough today to get a pending code (flashing CEL) and then eventually hard enough to get the CEL to stick. I have a cheap OBD2 reader that I bought (see pic below), but it won't connect to my Taco. I verified operation against 2 other vehicles, but it is showing a "failure to link" when I hook it up to the Taco. Checked the user manual and can't see any issues. Any suggestions?

Yup that’s what it looks like when I looked up your other part number. I still have that one in my spares box if you want it I think. Also don’t forget to get the nut too.

Not sure why that scanner won't work, but I'd just limp the truck over to your local Autozone or parts store and have them pull the code.

Or, order a cheap OBDII plug in off Amazon and download the Torque app on your phone...works great on my 04.

clean up the ground next to the diagnostic port on the intake manifold, when its a weak ground it'll do shit like that.
at least give that a shot

That's the weird thing. It's worked before and works on other rigs. Not sure why it won't communicate with the reader now. Guess I'll check it with an auto zone unit to confirm comms with the ecu. Was hoping someone had an easy diagnostic step for this.

Was using the port under the dash. I feel like a knuckle dragger for asking this, but is there a port under the hood? Not near the rig to check at the moment.

on the intake manifold theres a black box that says diagnostic on it. you dont plug into it. theres a ground next to it, pull the ground bolt off and clean up where the ground goes. when mine was acting up it would misfire when it pleased. cleaned it up and didnt have problems for a few years after.

as for the diagnostic port its a port to jump pins to do function checks and other things... dont mess with that.

I don't think a flashing CEL means pending code. Pretty sure that is shut it off ASAP before serious damage is done.

flashing is an active misfire. so yea. shutting it off is the most ideal thing.. because misfiring causes.. issues.

Yeah, but random misfires are hard as fuck to pinpoint. I throttled down to throw a code for diagnostic purposes. Flashing CEL? FML. Sticking CEL, readable...

The flashing one should still be readable once you get a scanner hooked up to it, even if it's not showing on the dash it'll be stored in the ECU I would think

Pulled the bolt, it was literally clean as fuck, but scuffed it anyway along with the terms...

    20191001_210812.jpg

Still has a connection failure. Guess double checking at the local auto parts store will be the next diagnostic check. Thanks for the pointers though.

Well shit, I wasn’t expecting that clean of an engine!

Can be a lot of things causing connection issues to the scanner. And may very well be your misfire issue. Had a Honda that wouldn’t connect. Ended up being a bad ecu. The k-line was dead
