What is the brightest PnP H4 for 2nd gens (not including the ultimate upgrade)?

(ie. the equivalent of the GE xenon for the 3rd gens)

Take a look at the chart in the original post. It is a little more complicated for 2nd Gen with a dual filament bulb vs a single filament in the 3rd Gen.

Best PnP is the IPF 4x4 Fatboy 60/80w. 80w low beam and 60w high beam, while higher wattage does not require a harness, but bulbs are very expensive.

Stock wattage best low beam is the Philips Racing Vision +150, but that bulb puts blue coating over the high beam filament causing reduced high beam performance. Best bulb that doesn’t coat the high beam is the GE Xenon +120 (like 3rd Gen). Charts comparing low beam performance between the 3 are in the original post.

 

Quick question do any of y’all have experience with the “Brite box” allows use of low/high beams together. Also is it compatible with the upgrade harness?

 

I know of the product but have never used it. If you are thinking if using it with the 100/90w SuperBrights, that wouldn't be a good idea. That is a ridiculous amount of power and heat to put into the headlight at once and surely would lead to very quick bulb failure if not damaging other components from heat. If thinking of using it on a stock wattage bulb, in concept the harness works effectively the same as stock, I'd have to read over the install directions to be sure it would work. But that product is far better suited for vehicles with separate high and low beam bulbs than a dual filament bulb as even on a stock wattage bulb, running both filaments simultaneously will lead to premature bulb failure.

One of my next projects I am currently working on is adding aux driving lights (J581 high beam) behind the grill, which will allow you to run with lows and 'high beams' on at the same time if you decide to wire it that way. Currently waiting on the parts, thread to follow.

So for the time being, the Superbright 100/90's are the best currently available correct? Being that the 85/80 Hypers were discontinued?

The low beam test was a little better with the IPF 4x4 Fatboys, but they are ridiculously expensive and only have a stock performance high beam. I would recommend the Superbrights instead.

 

Just installed my wiring harness and new superbrights today. Quality of the harness was amazing. Glad the swap corresponded with a dead stock bulb. Adjusted the headlights as well. Maybe Ill stop getting flashed now

 

Mike does awesome work. Definitely aim your headlights correctly, those lights will be very unkind to oncoming traffic if misaligned!

 

I have all of the components on hand or ordered including OEM Pro housings, Osram superbrights (x4), and the wiring harness. I have buffed and coated my old housings and ran original bulbs since 2012. More than EXCITED about doing this upgrade! Thanks @crashnburn80 for a great thread and wealth of information.

Do you think if I sprayed the new housings with a coat of the UV protectant it would increase the longevity of the lenses?

 

Yes. Meguiars makes some. It is a maintenance item. I have it, though I have yet to apply it.

I have been using it for years (on my old lenses) But I wanted your thoughts on using it on new lenses. It works well. Make sure you get any trash off, it is much like painting a car, any trash will be amplified. It is a bit disconcerting at first because you spray a “medium” coat on which does orange peel at first, but smooths itself out as it dries. If you don’t spray thick enough to “peel” you end up with a grainy finish.

 

That is not a once and done thing. You really need to spray after each wash or clean and spray monthly.
