The STX is a good value but lacks one key feature that I use a lot, the keyless entry. Otherwise, it's right on par with my stripped down XLT.

Ford's basic XL is really, really stripped down. No way I'd want to commute in one.

I kind of wish mine had push-button start, but I'm just happy that I have a remote starter. I haven't had remote start since my 4Runner! Almost 5 years :pout:

Do they still really need to be told? At this point in time, I'm assuming everyone already knows what's going to happen...

I've never had remote start from the factory on any vehicle. I added a Ford remote start system on my F150. It was a simple plug in for the unit, then required the dealer to program it. I had a 12volt solutions remote start on the last F250, just uses the factory fob and you press lock, unlock, lock and it starts. I'm not sure I'll add it again on the current F250. It worked well enough for the price but wasn't an overly reliable system. It also had some bugs that the support team seemed to be baffled by so I didn't have a great feeling about it (could have just been something with my truck also for all I know).

You can keep push button start out of my vehicles. That's just a gimmick and I'd rather not drive with the keys in my pocket.

Is that actually a thing? I had a Ford Fusion Hybrid for a rental and it was a little bit of an issue. When you stop, the engine stopped but you still had to remember to press the button for it to actually shut off. I also hate driving with things in my pockets so I'd put the key in the cup holder. A few times, I almost just got out and walked away from the car with it 'on' and the key in the cup holder.

Yeah, we've got an on-the-road salesman that has driven out of his garage with his keys sitting on the kitchen table. He's got a ?17? Fusion

This is a factory system, so I'm happy. Lock>start>start.

I think it is pretty cool you can plug in a module and just turn the feature on.

GM is like that, but you need to buy new fobs that have the remote start button on them.

The Ford system I had with the F150 was like that, it came with an uncut key (fob is part of the key). I had to have the key cut at Rocky's and then have the system activated in the ECU by Ford.
My 250's have both had side cut keys so I'm guessing if you go factory, you'd have to order everything through a dealer. The 12volt solutions route was pretty neat and very simple, just not sure I'd do it again and that's stemming from my own OCD, not their product or support. Any of the issues I had with my system, their support team was always quick to respond and very helpful.

What sucks about GM, specifically their half ton line, is I've read it's about impossible to add the integrated brake controller. Ford was plug and play to add.

Pretty much every truck comes standard with brake controllers nowadays.

Not even close to accurate, at least not around here. You'd be shocked how many don't even have a receiver, let alone the brake controller. Finding one with the max tow, payload package, tow mirrors, brake controller and receiver is like finding a damn unicorn. That's pretty much the whole reason I jumped to a 3/4 ton truck to begin with. At least most of the 3/4 ton trucks are ready to tow although, even then Dodge and Chevy still produce some without tow mirrors and Ford still make some without a brake controller.

I brought up ordering a headlight assembly the other day due to the badly hazed over condition.
Someone, who I can’t recall, mentioned Mother’s restoration kit. Can anyone say that it actually is worth it, or say just screw it and go for the $44 ( probably mid 50’s with the shipping) assembly from rock auto?

They all work well the trick is to properly seal it after the buff. The new ceramic coating technology for headlights is an interesting candidate

    Vermonters...

I'm moving your way before December and have some questions about getting my truck inspected up there. Feel free to PM me if you want, but can you tell me anything about if/when mudflaps are required (I see most VT trucks have them, but did notice several without), legality of tire poke outside the fenders (again, most don't but I saw some that did), retrofit headlights, any restrictions on lift and tire size?
