Welding isn't really that difficult, just requires a little studying and burning lots of rod or wire to develop a technique. A little help from someone that knows how to weld is a plus. If you want to do it you can. I was fortunate in that years back I was able to take adult evening extension classes at a local trade school. Back then it was offered to city residents for a dollar and vets for free and that was per class year. If I remember right it was an eight week course. It covered mig, tig, stick and gas. I went for three consecutive years. Huge benifit and only for $1.00 per year. I later worked part time for a friend that had a weld shop another big plus I even built my own utility trailer while there. I'd check with your local trade or high school to see if they offer similar adult extension classes. But don't let that stop you if they don't, it's really just a matter of practice.
I think it was Einstein that said (paraphrasing), "Anyone that has ever been afraid to fail has never tried anything new." If you really want to learn how to do something you just have to go for it!

Lol. Would confuse the hell out of me! But then I'm the North Eastern version of a redneck and actually somewhat proud of it. :anonymous:

Funny. First thing I think of when I hear the term redneck is "Git 'er done" and they usually do, even if it takes a rubber band and a paper clip to make it work.

Absolutely true. And don't think you need to go out a buy a $2000 welder to get started, my first welder was a pile of junk Lincoln AC/DC stick I got at a flea market for $150, it served its perpous for a year or so until I moved up to a nice little Miller mig, and on and on. Welding is the same as any skill, if you have the desire to learn, you can learn. If you mess up who cares, I have always learned more from a failed attempt then from getting something perfect the first time.

Deals Gap. Its a stretch of awesome highway that is on the TN/NC state line, running through both states. Riders and drivers come from all over the world to run it. I’m lucky to be pretty close. TONS of great riding in east TN and west NC.

Lol. Have the same Lincoln sitting in my basement. Never got around to buying my own mig welder since I always had access to someone elses. Would love to have a new state of the art one but at this stage of my life it's time to downsize instead of buying more stuff..........., wife's laughing and says, "Really?" :anonymous: Women!

When I started I remember being told that, "any weld you have to grind is not a weld to be proud of!"

The new state of the art is great, but to me they have replaced a lot of the skill and knowledge with technology. And I know some people are going to say "why use old technology tools, you're not driving a 1950's car around still" but a 50 Chevy got (and still gets) people around just the same as a brand new car. Being able to watch and work your puddle as you move along, listening to the sound of the arc and knowing what corrections need to be made, ect. That can't be replaced with technology.

I was told "if you have to grind after you weld you are not a welder, you're a grinder."

Looks like a nice ride Cap. One of these days maybe I'll get my BSA back together. One more thing to do on a very long, long list! I'm going to have to be reincarnated to get all this sh........, stuff done!

Love it! Those wheels took some work!

Haven't made it out east to Deal's Gap, but when I want to go into the mountains or get my thrills, I bring out my smile maker. Cruising is for old heads.

On my bucket list. My Dad bought it for me when I was 16. Total surprise. Took me to a cycle shop, had no idea the bike was for me. He bought the bike and a helmet, tossed me the helmet and said take her home. " But Dad, I don't have my permit yet!" He said, "then be careful and obey the rules of the road."
Great guy, that bike means the world to me!
