Finalized a deal early this week for a pretty awesome truck. Even got the thumbs up from my in-laws, they love the truck.

2019 Black TRD Sport 4X4 AT DCSB w/ Premium & Tech packages
+ Tonneau Cover / Mud flaps / floor liners / door sill protectors (I call BS here, but w/e)
    43,000 MSRP / 36,000 negotiated price + TTL ect.
Also, they gave me the $750 Toyota "Finance with us" discount, yet found me a better interest rate (3.9 vs 6% w/ Toyota).

There are so many TRD Sport DCSB around here in New England, especially in the lower TRD sport package (vs premium package, MANY in Rhode Island), with 85% of the dealers sticking to pricing around 38-39 for this same truck as above. I had to really push these guys down to 36,000 and even pulled the OK I am leaving and they stopped me at the door. Online pricing "game" is a painful process, but is worth it, just need to have patience.

This Forum was my #1 resource in finding a good deal on a truck, and knowing when to push the price down. Hope someone reads my post and finds it useful.

    Cheers.

I ended up buying this truck with this deal. Really liking it so far. Really easy buying process with the price already set.

That's a steal. I paid 33500 or so for mine with TTL included and mine was a TRDORDCSBAT(LOL) 2wd Tech with no other options but I've found that I got a pretty good deal also.

Based on this thread, doesn't seem like I got a steal, but it wasn't too bad?

I was looking for a OR DCSB 4x4 with tech+premium in Cement. At the time I was looking (2 weeks ago), there were 6 in the LA area. I was quoted for any color but Cement, $42,600ish OTD. No one would budge, nor was anyone willing to do a dealer trade for the Cement. The nearest Cement around me had about $1000 of dealer added accessories (running boards, door edge guard, hooks, window laser engraving for tracking(?), and some other stuff). Things I didn't need nor want, but had to get. There were other Cement with less accessories going for more, so I figured I'd sell what I didn't want and make up for it.
Ended up getting the Cement, for $42,690 OTD (Sticker was $42,300ish). It hurt a little to see others getting the same for less and maybe I could've gotten a better deal. But knowing that I got what I wanted, spending the extra $ was well worth it.

    Kudos to you!

Since 1993 we stopped buying used vehicles, and in that time have bought 6 cars (1 Toyota/1 Lexus) , 3 trucks (2 Toyotas) , 1 suv (Toyota) and 3 Harley's. It took a while to learn how to play the game but basically your advise above is dead on and everyone should read it and practice it. It will help a lot of people! I'd like to add to it if you don't mind.

Consumer Reports has a Build & Buy service that sounds similar to the Costco program. I used it once and it was effective. Dealers agree to a predetermined price and you're provided three dealers to choose from. I was able to pit them against each other and very quickly got the vehicle well below the MSRP. Another service I used once (not sure if it still exists) is called Fighting Chance. You pay a minimal fee and supposedly a industry insider provides you with the invoice prices and manufacturer's codes for every available standard/optional feature. I used this once when I bought my Tundra. I wrote the price I was willing to pay on a piece of paper and slid it across the table to my salesman. He was stunned to see I knew exactly what I had spec'd out cost, then he chuckled, immediately said "no way" and we got up, I politely thanked him for his time and we walked away. He stopped us before we could get to the door and said he had to check with his manager.

    :jerkoff:

We bought the truck that night. Of course there was serious pushback but I told him that he had two more days until the end of the month to make up for the lack of a high profit margin with me by selling just two more vehicles to less educated buyers. I told him flat out that another dealership farther away had accepted my offer but I'd prefer to stay where I was at and my review would be off the chart.

Of course you have to be a little deceitful sometimes too. So to add to your 8 points, #9 - you might have to lie about having a quote already but you would like to give them an opportunity to match or even beat it. Use the "I have heard great things about this dealership even though the other is bla bla bla, closer, etc." (Once I went as far as faking a hand written quote on another dealership's letterhead using photoshop to create it). I also suggest practicing your pitch to a couple different friends or family members if you feel you are normally timid in situations like this. You don't have to be aggressive but you should always be in control.

I'm recently in the market again, and I reached out to a dealership online. It's a high volume multi-location dealership too. I explained this was not my first rodeo, how old I am, how long I've been at my current job (this establishes my credibility and ability) that I felt their prices were very competitive and even better in most cases than those I've been seeing (this shows that while their prices are good, they are not exclusive and will have to work to be), I reinforced that by saying I absolutely will not accept the MSRP on the sticker as the price I'm willing to pay. Then I told him exactly what I was looking for, but also listed alternatives to allow for some flexibility on my part to keep the price as low as possible. Finally I let him know that if can't meet my needs then I would respect his honesty so neither of us were wasting each others time, but also said that since I have an extensive history with the truck athat if he can meet all my needs that this would be the easiest sale of his life and all I'd need to do would be to come and sign the papers and drive the truck home.

We've since communicated two other times via email only, this is at my request, even though he has my phone number. That specific request is more a test to judge his desire to respect me, which in turn is also a great way to help me determine his willingness to make me happy. It has to be a two way street though. Even though I may not be ready to purchase for a couple of weeks (and I let him know that up front too) I will let him know what vehicles I see that are available at their family of dealerships (information online today includes the VIN numbers so again i'm able to prove my buying knowledge) which shows I'm still a highly potential customer.

Typically I shoot for 15% off sticker, however given the overall reputation of the Tacoma, selling power etc. 15% might be a real stretch. 10% is nice but I will ask for more from the start. When they push back I will calculate the monthly payment and counter if I need to. As soon as we reach a deadlock I will push for added incentives. Most dealers offer bedliner undercoating. That would be key! The platinum warranty would also be a great compromise.

Ultimately though, I know exactly how high I'm willing to pay and I know, thanks to my research here how much they are willing to bend so I will be aggressive at first to feel them out, then push as needed. Hopefully I'll win the battle.

One last thing. Everyone needs to realize that sometimes, actually most of the time, the dealerships have no desire or the ability to satisfy our needs. They will almost always bet on finding that poor sucker that doesn't know any better, or doesn't care instead of an educated/savvy customer.

Fortunately for us, there's at least two dealerships in every area (and in more populated areas that number increases) which immediately gives us the upper hand.

    Good luck to everyone!

Supply and Demand. You probably would've had to travel to get into better supply where dealers are willing to come down on the price. It would probably all wash out either way. When I was shopping (5 weeks ago) there were like 3 Tech+Premium 2wd's in Texas and I was in the same boat you were. Except this was my first truck and I should probably not get the premium package that way in 5+ years i'll have something I can upgrade and give me an excuse to get a new truck haha. I'll probably wait for whatever the 4th gen is and get that. Although i'm sure TW will say its shittier than the 3rd gen which is shittier than the 2nd gen which is shittier than the 1st gen. you know how it goes.

Settled on a little over $35k (before TTL) for my OR 4x4 w/tech package, blackout lettering, and a few other things. A little over $39k out the door. I got one of the most common configurations of Tacos here in Socal (silver, OR, AT), which I think made it easier to get a better deal.

Overall, I think I did pretty well. Probably could have squeezed a bit more out of them if I wanted, but I felt the price was reasonable and I wanted to enjoy the day, not be angry.

Post your Pre-TTL number and mention all of the add-ons you got. That is the only way to compare apples to apples. I live in CA too. Great weather, but Terrible TTL.

I purchased my 2019 TRD Pro from the dealership two weeks ago for $52500CAD (around $39500USD). They only brought in two 2019 Pros at my local dealership because I live in a small city of less than 110,000 people. In Canada the Pro's come with the snorkel which hindered sales for the Pro so my local dealership was willing to take a loss and sell it to me for just under dealer cost....hoping they would receive a 2020 Pro. Turns out Toyota Canada sent them ANOTHER 2019 Pro instead of a 2020 so now they are stuck with two 2019s again lol. I feel like I received a great deal!

After watching this thread for a few months I finally made my purchase. Ended up getting a 19 DCSB Offroad 4x4 in Quicksand, all weather mats, Mud-flaps, and exhaust tip were the only options.

    MSRP - 38,327
    Sales Price - 33,500
    Discount - 4,827

Pretty happy with this deal considering they had multiple uses ones listed higher then my end price on new.
