They aren't a box store so they're willing to do more for the customer. It works out better for everyone.

Recommendations for a MoBo to go with the R5 2600? I think B450 is the right chipset for me, I would like the option run M.2 drive as the boot drive and I need a PS/2 port for my keyboard but other than that I dong really have any requirements.
I’ll probably only run 16 GB Ram but would like the option to go up to 32.

Edit: I think these are my top contenders currently.

It all depends on the model. Magnesium chassis and metal hinges aren't standard from anyone anymore. The Tuf is a decent laptop but it won't be as rigid as something made with those features. Then again those features usually add at least $500 to the cost.

Keep in mind B550 might launch by the end of the month and drive B450 prices even lower.

Built; processor went on sale and there was a deal when bought with the motherboard I was looking for. Didn't think I'd have it this fast. Just waiting on the chromax noctuas now; should be in tomorrow.
Getting used to Windows 10 is weird, but not as bad as I thought. Now I just have to find where to turn off the rainbow rgb for the motherboard and we're set. I'm also pretty suprised I was able to harvest the CD drive from my 2009 pre-built HP. I'll probably replace it at some point though, it's noisy as all get out when reading, but still sata so hey hey.

Good to know, I wasn’t aware that B550 was as supposed to launch soon.

Thoughts on this as a housing for 2 NAS HDDs? The discount is catching my eye.

It looks like Intel is cutting their HEDT pricing for Cascade Lake X in half. Competition at work! I'd still be chapped if I bought a Skylake X CPU before the Ryzen launch at full original retail.

Fair lol. It's just crazy how far performance per dollar has come since there have been two legitimate options on the market. If Intel seriously brings their 18 core workhorse to the market at under $1k that's good for everyone.

    Yeah.
I worked at AMD when the original Athlon was released, and I would say that was a time of good competition, at least for a while. But I guess that was about 2 decades ago, geez. I hate doing that math.

Great chips, but the chipsets seemed to be a bit wonky, and stability of newly released motherboards became an issue over time, at least for me. I was freelancing for a while and got really frustrated with AMD stability and ended up switching back to Intel, including only buying Intel-brand motherboards. They were pricey, but high quality and always stable.

It seems AMD has addressed this with their latest processors, taking a bit more control over the chipset side of things -- like Intel has pretty much always done. Great to see this.

@Sterdog - What temps should my GPU be at? (I know it depends on a variety of things - ambient temp, GPU, monitor setup, game played)

MSi GTX 1080 Duke (Custom Fan Profile)
    27" 1440p 144hz monitor / 27" 1440p 60hz monitor
77F temp in office (before gaming starts)

So who is dropping $1K on a 18C/36T Intel X Series CPU?

GPUs aren't are heat sensitive as CPUs. That being said anything over 80c is usually getting warm and anything over 90c is probably too hot. It also depends on where the temp is measured but that's not a factor on nVidia cards like yours yet. My MSi Gaming X Trio 2080Ti sits at about 80c during heavy 1440p gaming with an ambient temperature around 70f so I would say anything hotter than that on a 2080 especially with a custom aggressive fan curve would be getting a little hot.

Keep in mind they were selling that level of processor for about $3k not too long ago lol. I remember when work bought my Threadripper for image stitching at $1I and I thought that was expensive.
