My passenger side door lock does this occasionally when my truck auto locks after I start moving. And like you only happens once in awhile. I have also experienced the door half opened but locked.

The only thing that has made mine better was going to my passenger door and manually locking and unlocking the truck a few times.

I’m hoping it gets worse before 36k. Right now I’m sure the dealer will say cannot replicate.

Replace the door lock/ window control module. That might help.

The hood, door, tailgate latch/striker is basically the same design, in fact it's the same on 95% of all vehicles.

Above pic will give you an idea of what to check for on your driver's side door and on the hood, once you've narrowed it down to the latch/striker.

You'll need to take the inner door panel off and use a mirror to check OR
Put a little bit (don't want to get it in the latch) of Plasticine/Play Doe around the opening for the door latch and gently close the door.
    For the door you are checking;
the outside bar (part of the striker loop) for up/down as shown in the picture, but cross/car left to right, is it going deep enough into the latch to get to full engagement of the pawls.

For the hood this check is much easier with an inspection camera, or take the grill assembly off. For the hood the height of the striker is also important, not high enough it does not make it to the fully engaged position and is just in the latch position which allows the hood/door to rattle.
For the Hood you are checking left/right as showing in the picture, and up/down of the bottom bar of the striker loop.

If your doing the screwdriver test on the latch mech make sure you release the latch and open the latch by pulling the screwdriver away so the latch is open before you close the hood or door.

The hood problem is related to Toyota not manufacturing the hood correctly. Toyota puts varying amounts of glue before permanently joining the hood skin with the support and consequently the skin flaps. To make things even worse Toyota hasn't been replacing the hoods anymore and now trys to re-glue said hood (Toyota body shop and 3rd party body shop said to replace). In my case when they pried the support down to make room for the wrong glue it broke the insufficient amount of glue holding the rest of the support.

    Trying again on Monday!

This is a good reminder to turn off the auto lock/unlock when truck is in park or drive. Unnecessary wear and tear. I'm curious if your lock solenoid is going bad.

After being told to return this morning with my loaner, I was told they saw the locks doi by their thing. Told to take the rental again and they would trouble shoot

Ahh Yes. Maybe a real fix is coming. You sure as hell were not going to get it here.
Let us know what they find/replace.

I'm just happy it actually acted up there. I just hope they actually fix it.

Does anyone know what happens of they are unable to track down the issue? (I.e. they keep throwing parts at it with no fix?)

If they can't fix it, start a ticket with corporate. Move it to the next level. You paid big money for a new truck that works as it should.

Update: Dealer called me today and stated that the actuator was the issue. They replaced it. Hopefully this fixes it, but I feel that it could be a deeper electrical issue. (I hope it is done as I don't wanna have to keep going down there!)

So far no issues, but as stated earlier...this problem didn't happen all the time. If I have further issues i will let everyone know.

Just an update, the new actuator fixed the problem. It's been almost 2 months with no issues. Just thought I would report back for those of you with similar issues.

This is exactly what is happening to me. I was going crazy and thought it was me. Any more issues since then?
