My son came up in June after his senior year. We headed up Farmington canyon, this is what we found at the top. And some views from the top.

If you're headed to Idaho, stop by Preston, ID where they filmed Napoleon Dynamite. From there head up to the Oneida Narrows Road on the Bear River. There might be a prettier place, but there aren't many. My youngest son and I were up there fishing once, during the mule deer migration. We counted over 150 in one field, and lost count at 500.

There's a ton of hot springs around here! If I think of any need to see spots I'll add them on here. It's honestly really hard to narrow it down to only a couple.... so much beauty here

Nothing to see in DFW unless you like flat land. Hill country down to west of San Antonio is MUCH prettier. Avoid Austin...you might catch something.

I’d swing by white sands and Carlsbad caverns in New Mexico on you way down

@mZiggy is in El Paso so might have some suggestions too

Those would pretty much be my suggestions. And Elephant Butte for maybe some time by the water. There's other trails closer to El Paso but they generally take some coordination with a local group to go off-roading

I second Carlsbad. That was on my to-do list when I lived in TX, but it never happened.
