Cut & broke off some stuff.
The grizzly attacks made news way down here in TN today at lunch (for about 20 seconds).

Came out of the southern Madisons on Sunday in about 8" of fresh. Got to use my truck to pull a tree off the road that had snapped during the storm. Completely blocked our exit and staying in there another night was not an option. That was fun! Love my Tacoma.

Saw quite a few bears while back in the woods too, right on the heels of all those encounters in the Gravellys. Fortunately no real encounters for us but 5 grizzlies inside 100 yds is about 5 too many. o_O

I will pray that day never comes!
Are you going to feed a family on grizzly meat or is it nothing more than bravado for killing a magnificent animal.

I'm guessing that you have never eaten bear meat... Bear meat is food. Same with mountain lion.

I have eaten Black Bear meat. My grandfather shot one in MN and it was greasy and pretty disgusting. It was edible for some I suppose. I have not nor do I ever wish to eat Grizzly Bear.

What sort of snow preparations do you folks make?

I'm trying to decide if I should make the trip to Bozeman to pick up my GFC or get it delivered. I would be leaving Fresno, CA area November 15th and would like to be back in San Diego by Thanksgiving. I've got experience driving in snow but not a lot with my truck as it's currently set up and I know the MTRs I have are not good snow tires.

What sort of conditions would I likely see that time of year and would I be able to enjoy myself or would I be white knuckles the whole time?

Well parts of MT got 4ft of snow this past week so anything could happen honestly. I'll be driving to SD the 23rd!

    Form follows function
Stick to the Interstate (Idaho falls -> Butte -> Bozo). Avoid the towns of West Yellowstone/Big Sky, specially if there is forecast of snow/ice. Otherwise it’s not a bad drive at all. Also avoid Yellowstone NP. US 93 in Nevada is a little sketchy at times but not as bad as the park, just check forecast and avoid speeding on this area. Interstates get cleared up pretty quickly. Have a safe trip.

Are chains a requirement, good idea or unnecessary?

I know the basics of snow driving, just rusty. And could successfully navigate snowy interstates but would be sad and bored the whole time.

They aren't required. You'll be fine if you take it slow and brake early.

Not unless you end up in a ditch haha

Which with the mtrs and shit weather could happen. I love those tires but they are a death sentence in ice and hard pack snow.
