1987-1991 had underpowered engines, and all of the pre-1997 models had a tendency to rust if not looked after...

That manifold looks kinda odd but I would guess that is a V6.

 

There were a few Jeep Cherokees...

Hers was kinda like this, has a Mazda look to it.

 

This 2001 model belonged to my aunt, and it ended up here because she didn't take very good care of it and it died. This Cherokee is unique because it is a 2WD model, and it was originally owned by a Japanese consulate in Florida. My uncle (same one I was at the salvage yard with) bought it from the second owner, specifically because it was a 2WD to take his kids out, and drove it for a year or so, then sold it to his twin sister. My aunt bought it automatically assuming it must be a 4x4 because it was a Jeep...



She bought it in 2007 or 2008, and drove it for about a decade even after finding out it was not a 4x4. It started having serious engine problems in 2018, with only 87K on the clock. It finally died in August 2018, and she sold it to the salvage yard for a measly fifty bucks. She replaced it with a 2008 Honda CRV a couple months later, making sure the CRV was 4WD before buying it...

 

That was most certainly not a 2001-2007. That's more like a 1989-1992...

 

Exactly. That is the ballpark timeframe I remember her having that car.

 

My bad mistakened it for this exactly what my mom had minus the roof rack. Only had four gears 2nd gear was shot.

 

They made an SRT-4 Caliber too, and I also believe they made an all-wheel drive Caliber. The Caliber was a turd, but if Dodge made it with the turbocharged SRT-4 engine and all-wheel drive, maybe it would have been more palettable!

There were a surprising number of seemingly undamaged Hondas in the yard (meaning they'd been in once piece upon arrival at the yard)...

 

If you look closely at the odometer, you'll see that the Tracer had over 162K miles on the clock...

These cars were actually not unreliable!
