I have a side question hope someone may not mind helping me out with from this. If you buy a nice 1st gen tacoma for the inflated price that these hold, what happens when you total the truck and KBB or other similiar statistic sources tell your insurance provider its worth 5k or whatever it may be? Do you just lose all that money you spent on the truck due to the imaginary (although I understand its quite real) prices that these sell for? Sorry if dumb question. Thanks tho for any answer

Wow! Just hard to believe. I recently hit a deer on interstate totaling my car and there was no way I could have missed it if I had tried. Scary to imagine with one of these trucks. Thanks.

not a dumb question! i have asked my insurance agent the same thing numerous of times if I would happen to get hit by uninsured or someone with cut rate insurance.
he Failed to give me any kind of answer other than they would determine actual cash value at the time and the company does not rely on kbb for determination

If I am looking for a used vehicle and I find exactly what I want, in good condition, I am willing to pay a premium. I say go for it. $13k is a premium but remember that cash really talks... they might take $12k or less if you show up with a fist full of cash and promise you will take good care of her.

    probably Ranger?
    maybe Nissan Frontiers?

the only compact truck that could outdo mine at the time (other than ground clearance)
    was the Dakota v8

The iinsurance company doesn't care how much you (over) paid for anything. Hell, they gave my wife $80 for her concert violin that was stolen when our house was broken into, even though we had paperwork for it.

It is in the interest of the company to under value the vehicle, so they can remain profitable.

1st gens aren’t exactly a “classic” car yet, so they are in a no man’s land of high demand that *some* people are willing to pay and a classic car.

There are some insurance companies that will give you “replacement value” vs. whatever they pre-determine as the value based on some algorithm. But those are generally more expensive too.

If you don't have budget insurance, most will agree to a value ahead of time. I have Statefarm and my agent created my policy so I get "agreed value" of $12K should something happen to it or damage over 70% of value totals it. I pay a few extra dollars a month, but completely worth it.

I have been through the ringer with insurance multiple times.. I have had stolen cars, stolen motorcycles, totaled cars, totaled bikes, vandalized vehicles, hit deer, people have hit me etc. Get a good agent and work with them to ensure that you don't get a run of the mill policy that saves you a few dollars because most are trash.

Also, 1st gens in good shape are expensive for what they are (supply and demand). I have had dealer techs offer to buy my truck (04 TRD DC with new frame) multiple times and been in disbelief at the compliments I get on it and how many people want to talk about their first Toyota.. It's weird. 1st gens have a cult like following.

I mean, it wasn’t a Stratavarious, but it wasn’t an $80 walmart vilon either. It was $500 back then, and we even went to several music shops that said it was easily still worth that, if not more, including the shop she baught it at.

We faught it for a while, but in the end, she hadn’t played it in years, and they gave us a ridiculous amount for our CD and DVD collection. They estimated like $20 for each dvd, even though we got most of them used for like $5, lol.

that's like an episode of iCarly where Spencer sets her room on fire with a defective gummy bear night lamp and they wind up finding out her Grandmothers diamond-encrusted jewelry (that was also destroyed) was worth mega money!

Yes it does. It collects actual sales prices. Asking price is useless. All you see browsing craigslist is useless information. The only info of value is what something actually sold for.

Got my '02 Ext Cab 3.4L TRD 4x4 SR5 with only 100k miles for $10,400 in Santa Rosa, CA

California truck, no rust, garage kept, original owner, all service records, always taken to the dealership for everything. It was a goddamn miracle. Still not sure how I got that lucky.

(^ this may sound insane to folks who live in less expensive areas)

Is that a good price? Just curious because I basically paid the same amount.

02 Xtra cab 3.4L trd 4x4 sr5 with painted topper 135k miles in Richmond CA.

I paid 10k—sold some accessories for about $800 but I thought that was kind of middle/high end of market value.

    How many miles was yours?
