Don't worry, they upgraded to Colgate Toothpaste as their TIM for the upcoming i9-9900KS.

There is no way Rocket League is even close to maxing out your card lol. Mine literally bounces off the frame limiter.

Are we ever going to play together again?

I wasn't saying Rocket League is maxing out my GTX 1080 lol  I was just saying I played Rocket League for a few hours and the GPU got to 64C. Other games (DiRT Rally) I have had the GPU get to 75C but never seen it above that. I monitor the temps on my 2nd monitor.

I'm not sure when we are going to play again. You are on times when I'm not on. I'm usually on 8pm EST until ???

I use Arctic Silver too. One of my cores runs a little hotter than the rest. I've re-done the thermal paste a couple times with the same result. I guess what's under the TIM must not be even. Too lazy to delid though.

I was joking about the TIM Intel uses under the heat spreader to conduct heat from the actual chip to the aluminum part you actually see. It's better to solder the heat spreader down like AMD still does and Intel did until Haswell. The new paste Intel uses in place of solder is cheaper for manufacturing but absolute garbage. There are tons of videos showing how bad it is and how much improvement there is in the 9900k when you delid it to replace the stock TIM.

Looks like AMD is bringing out a non-X version of the 3900 that will still be overclockable. Some early reviewers have said it'll hit 4.35 ghz overclocked on all 12 cores just like the 3900x. Thay could be interesting for value seekers.

I use arctic silver too and still see temps as high as 85c while under extreme load. intel needs to go back to the solder

My 3700X has a similar TDP to a 9900K when overclocked. It's set to boost whenever possible so I regularly run 4.35 ghz in games across all cores. Noctua NT-H1 paste with a Fractal Designs 240mm AIO. I never see temps over 60c after break in. Good thermal solder is the only way to go and it sucks that Intel cheapskates out on their top of the line desktop chips. I doubt Intel will go back, they cant afford it. It costs a lot more to yield a 9900k chip than the chipsets in even the 3950x so they have to cut costs where possible.

Solder lasts longer than the Intel TIM. The only reason Intel uses TIM is to cut costs. The way that stuff flakes off like glass in the video means it's dried out and will no longer be anywhere near spec for watt dissipation per mm. I don't know about you but I have zero desire to delid processors to get reasonable temperatures.

A processor at 85-90c regularly during gaming won't last as long as one at 60-70c. The problem isn't that Intels TIM isn't acceptable. I agree for an office machine that rarely boosts it'll be more than fine. However for someone who is counting on the high frequencies of a chip like the 9900k it's unacceptable in many people's minds for Intel to not use the better solution available especially when the competition does. I'd like to pass my computer onto someone who needs it and I want them to get years or even a decade out of it without worrying about temps from something they can't easily change.

Absolutely agree, I wouldn't delid unless I had a free processor. I'll just keep selecting AMD at least until Intel catches up with a chiplette design that'll likely go back to solder.

He's likely setting up that eventually Windows will simply be a compatibility layer over Linux kernel. The Arm Android Surface they are releasing is a bit of a proof of concept for that idea.

On that note though windows will never be completely open, they'll just use the Linux base layer to streamline their operating system for the IOT. Free Linux releases will never take over the consumer market. They're too diverse and support is too complicated for the average user or corporate client.

Noctua just dropped fully blacked out versions of their U14 and D15 air coolers. No need to go with their circa 1980 poop brown fans and chrome towers anymore.

Meh, my opinion but it worked when cases had brown or green motherboards and mustard/ketchup wiring. After that it was a statement for people who liked to be different and it was a good marketing tool for maybe a decade. We are in the age though of highly customizable builds that you can easily modify to show your tastes in colors and other aesthetics, poop brown doesn't stand out now for the right reasons. Sure, if you're a huge Noctua fan, no pun, the classic colour might appeal to you but for most of the market the all black versions are long overdue.
