Hello, I am new to the forum and I’m having a problem with my 2003 Tacoma. Recently the passenger side power window has stopped going up. It will not go up or down from the master switch on the driver side. It will go down using the switch in the front passenger door but it will not go up.The problem was intermittent at first where it would go up a little and stop. I would wait a little bit and be able to roll it up the rest of the way. Now it will not go up at all. I replaced the regulator and motor in the passenger door. I can jumper a wire from the battery to the switch connector and get the window to go up or down. When I install the switch, the window will only go down. I have replaced both the master switch panel in the drivers door and the switch in the passenger door. All of the other windows work properly but the passenger window will not go up. Sorry for the long post. I figured the background on the situation was important. Thanks for any help you might offer. Mike

HEHE . Just had the same problem today with my drivers power window motor on my 04. Well kinda similar. Mine will roll down but not up.
I pulled the door panel off, used the up button and with a little manual help from my hand I got it to roll back up. I put a piece of tape over the switch to remind me and when i get back from vacation I'll replace the motor, most likely culprit in both of our cases. Was just starting my search as I'm sure someone here has a write up on how to replace the window motor.
GL with your search and solution :)
Glad to have you here on the forum!

Shoot man, that's a good one. I replaced a regulator and drivers side switch panel just a week ago. I did read here on TW about a relay and looked it up at the dealer parts shop just in case I needed one. They no longer make it for my 98, possibly aftermarket, never checked. Sure you did already, but check wire harness plug drivers side for corrosion or gunk. I can say mine was clean, doubt that's it. Good luck, read up on that relay, it's on here somewhere.

It could be broken wires in the harness going from the door to the cab .

Most times on the drivers side but if your right door gets lots of use it could be there

I did replace the window regulator and motor (it comes as one piece). That was a straightforward repair. Let me know if you need any help on that one. Thanks for the repky

I will do some research on the relay. Do you know where the relay is located? I can’t seem to find it in the manual. Thanks

I will check this out. Thanks for the suggestion. I assume I just pull all the wires out of the door and inspect them or is there an easier way. The fact that the window worked intermittently before it finally quit rolling up has me baffled.

When the parts guy pulled it up it appeared to be behind the kick panel left side. Did you get a brand new switch? Aftermarket or Toyota? If you saved your old switch you can take it apart and clean contacts and it will most likely work fine. I did this in order to use old switch to move window in position to attach the two bolts to window sash while I was waiting on new switch. You could do the same and try to see if it will work. This might help you confirm or eliminate a faulty new switch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQmDoZSZuY4

I bought new aftermarket switches off of Amazon. I’ll try to take my original switch apart and clean the contacts. Thanks for the video.

Your Multi Meter is your friend.

Wires can be broken and show no damage on the outside .

Wires that are frayed could very well work some time

So my plan is to open the connection that is in the kick panel that feeds into the door and open the connection at the window switch. Just going by wire color, I will test for continuity from the connector in the kick panel to the connector at the window switch. I will do this on the driver and passenger front door to check for broken wires between the kick panel and the switch. Does that make sense?

Try cleaning the contacts on the inside of the switches doubt that the one on the master and passenger got that dirty at the same time, but it's possible. Also when I first got my truck my rear window wouldn't go up or down. Turned out one of the big plugs around the drivers side kick panel wasn't quite plugged in all the way and was causing just that one window to malfunction

And yes that's good to check too just test it and slowly move down the whole wire to try and find where the break might be

    I feel your frustration.
WHen I go off roading my passenger side window stops working. I go off roading again and it starts to work flawlessly.
I ended up tapping both wires and putting bananna plugs in the door panel. so now when it stops I have hook a cord to it and force it up or down.
One day I will find it. Hopefully I will get some tips from this thread. I checked connections, contacts wires I could find.

Another thing to test is the voltage at the right door switch if it drops to low the motor will have a hard time working

    PROBLEM SOLVED:

I am the original poster on this question. I thought I would post back with my update. The truck originally had problems with both front windows going down and then not going up. If I waited a few minutes the windows would go up, maybe a few inches at a time. We changed out both regulators/window motors on the front 2 doors of the truck. The drivers door then operated properly. The passenger window would only go down (And only do that from the passenger side). I ordered a new passenger door window switch and a new master (driver’s door) switch but the symptoms remained.
I haven’t had time to do anymore work on the truck so I took it to my mechanic shop. Originally they suspected the master switch but after trying the new switch they looked deeper. It turns out I had five broken or nearly broken wires coming through the rubber tube between the passenger door and the truck. He started with a continuity test on the window wires but that did not show any problem. The one window wire that was broken and at fault had a single intact strand which provided continuity. He then opened up the wire loom and visually inspect the wires. It turns out five wires were broken or in very bad shape. After replacing the wires the window works properly.
Thanks for the help! I hope this helps someone else!
