Yeah that could be smart move financially. But I've made my bed and gotta lay in it. I've already invested in my education in criminal justice. So if I leave the security field I'll be looking into things like private investigator or parole officers etc.

There are a lot of people with a degree in A but are busy doing B. The degree proves you can learn.

We have folks with a bunch of different backgrounds and degrees that don't match the work they do, but those backgrounds make them better at that work because they're not stuck in the ruts that a stereotypical IT person tends to land in. Your education may be more portable than you think, especially in your current role.

If criminal justice is what makes you happy then definitely stick with that. Happiness is worth a lot. If not don't let your degree limit you. The degree will only help you get a job elsewhere. Like CaptAmerica said, degrees just prove you can learn.

Why don't you become a cop? That seems to be the logical step...

Well the plan was.always to work for a security company the minimum 2-3 years then use my degree to compensate for the additional required experience, making me eligible for a middle or upper management job, investigative job or corporate job within the security company.

Been there, done that, didn't work out unfortunely. I was TCOLE licensed to be a peace officer. I just couldn't land a job.

Okay. Seems like Austin is always looking for cops, but I have no idea.

There are a lot of places that need qualified police. I understand Dallas has a few openings on their force.

    What, too soon?

It's too late for me. My license expired and I let myself go. Depression is a hell of a mistress.

Nobody wants to work for DPD.... So dysfunctional... My step brother was PD here in my town and had looked at moving to DPD because of the sign on bonus. After looking into it, he quickly realized he was right where he needed to be.
