Random question on this (or any) head unit. Can this be set up to display OBD 2 metrics? I'm thinking of getting a travel trailer and it'd be nice for the head unit to show transmission temp, trailer tpms, etc.

I think that will show up if you get the idatalink maestro, but not the Crux unit. Crux just does steering wheel controls. Not sure about trailer TPMS though, that sounds doubtful.

Not sure what you are worried about. It’s Alpine, it’s Crutchfield. Two of the best in the business. The HU isn’t the fanciest out there but it’s the best at that price.

I'm interested in seeing how everyone has their USB set up with these aftermarket units. I'm thinking I'll just connect a 6ft lighting cable to the back and have it hanging under the drivers side of the dash, but I'd really prefer to swap out one of the cigarette lighters or USB/AUX ports.

I've seen the PAC USBDMA6 as well as something like the Batige Square single port, but I don't want to be cutting anything on the dash and I'm not sure how well those things fit out of the package.

How difficult is it to connect the USB extension to one of the USB charging ports in the center console?

It hooks up to the factory USB cable so that you can use the factory USB port above your cup holders for carplay. Unless yours doesn't have that for some reason? Kind of confused why you don't want to use that.

Are you talking about the AUX/USB port? Crutchfield told me that USB wouldn't work and I'd need to replace a USB port or just have the cable come out somewhere else.

Oh, had no idea. Is it an issue with the factory cable? You could easily replace the oem connection (and plate) with one that has a better quality cable.

I think this was fixed with a firmware update.

I dont own one I was just interested and reading some reviews, but if it was just a firmware update and they got it fixed that would be awesome.

I use the factory USB plug and don't have any problems with Apple Carplay running the latest firmware.

Installed it tonight and factory USB wouldn’t work. No issue with CarPlay if I plugged in directly to the USB port.

I gotta go back in tomorrow and check some things. Steering wheel controls and back up camera aren’t registering. Definitely user error.

Interesting. Will be curious to see if the firmware update fixes it when you get around to that. What steering wheel interface are you using? Crux or idatalink?

Check all of the dip switches... that would do it.

Got the steering wheel controls and back up camera all situated, as well as the mic.

Was told the factor USB adapter doesn't work for CarPlay, so I wasn't able to get resolution there.

I didn't use the adapter they provided. I just used the cord that was already on the truck. It fit directly into the head unit no problem.

Was the problem with the Crux unit the dip switches?

Sorry, this was my first install. Your saying this cable has a USB cord connected to it? I was under the impression it had the same male/female as the USB port (that block gray piece) for the USB/Aux port. The adapter below is the one I tried using and was told it didn't work with CarPlay.

As for steering wheel, I failed to plug in the Crux 35mm to the jack.

That is how I remember it... I removed all adapters and it was just a straight USB plug into the head unit. I don't recall using any adapter. I can tell you that my ILX-W650 works just fine with carplay using the factory plug & wire for the USB port above the cupholders...

Not plugging in the 35mm jack would also cause the steering wheel controls not to function :rofl:

Disregard what I said, you have it plugged in correctly... Are you using Android Auto or carplay? What is the exact model of your truck?
