I would have totally waited as as well, it seems a few guys have already scored 2020 pros at MSRP or slightly below which is so freaking close to prices people are paying on loaded ORs now.

Yeah. I got $1000 off MSRP and was very happy with it. Before going to the dealership I validated that there were no mark ups. I went in fully expecting to pay MSRP and they hit me with the $1000 off.

I think they are learning their lesson from all the 19 Pros that sat, plus a down car sales market. Nice!

    OP here,

I passed on that SR5 because I just didn't feel good about spending so much on that trim level (even for a 2020). Plus, I felt the dealer was starting to play games with me (ended up telling me my trade was worth a thousand less than originally quoted when I enquired as to why I didn't get the $500 lower internet price). They changed their tune a day after I walked away from the deal and came back with the numbers I wanted but, by then, the damage had been done. I don't want to be toyed with.

So, yesterday I went to another dealership and got me a 2020 Off Road DCSB with Tech package. I certainly didn't steal it. In fact, I know I'm overpaying a little bit but I really wanted a '20 (because I've read the transmission issue has been corrected, I wanted Apple Car Play, and the electric driver seat is pretty nice).

    MSRP $39,078
    Negotiated $37,357
    OTD $38,156

I only got 3.8% below MSRP (other dealers got me to 5% below MSRP), but these guys treated me very well, gave me more for my trade, and they had the truck that had everything I wanted... in the color I wanted.

I appreciate all your input. You helped me hold out for a better trim level and a better overall experience.

    Sincerely,

    Happy New Taco Owner

Sounds like you got a pretty reasonable deal for a 2020! Congrats, and the truck looks great man.

Agreed, but it will change in time as the 2020s age on the market. Companies play all sorts of weird games with product pricing.

I generally use the website's MSRP as a baseline when going into a dealer. I don't play games with "market adjustments" or any of that BS... they can go pound sand with that crap.

Almost same situation. Got my DCSB OR 4x4 w/tech package for 34K OTD after TTL.

Agreed, but will still cost more than a loaded 19 did with all the new package options and price increase. Tacoma you can generally get around 10% off MSRP, so a loaded 2020 TRD OR your looking at $40k ($44-46k MSRP) as opposed to a loaded 19 OR which was $36k ($40-42k). Thats alot of money for the added content in many of our opinions.

I saw the same thing when I put a deposit down on my 16 in 15 and so forth when the first 17 Pros started showing up. Toyota pricing/marketing is pretty standard, its how they keep great resale, you're not gonna see heavy discounts.

I think most people are genuinely trying to help others get a good deal on their truck. I know when I was in the market, I did a lot of market research online. But, what really helped me was a similar thread for the 2019. I final got a 2019 DCSB OR AUTO 4x4 w/ TECH and PREMIUM packages and paid $36,132 (price included a $1000 rebate) before TTL. All I can say is do you research and do your homework. Or, if you have hella money drop whatever amount you want on your truck and be happy.

If you are in the area (SF bay area) I highly recommend hitting up Aaron, the king of Tacoma sales (found him on a similar thread here on TW). This was not your typical gaming playing, "I have to keep the lights on excuse" of a salesman. He was upfront with me and told me he'd give me the best price right out of the gate. His exact words, "I'm going to give you a price nobody will touch." He is a man of his word. At the time I shopped his quoted price up and down CA and even Reno, NV. Nobody would beat or match that price.

So I just built a 2020 OR 4x4, identical to my '19 and the MSRP came out to $39,493. That's about $200 more than my '19.

That $200 includes power seats and Carplay. I couldn't care less about either of those features, but $200 seems reasonable for both.

Where are you seeing MSRP jumps of $2k-4k for similarly equipped vehicles ('19 vs. '20)?

Build out a TRD OR with TECH AND PREM, there is where the jump is. I am very aware of the mild $200 increase for bare bones config, I even referenced it in a prior post. But to get JBL, heated seats, moonroof, leather its a much different story, then add in LED package, camera, etc.

    Ah, gotcha

I guess it's good to know though that if you just want a relatively basic version, the price difference isn't all that much.

 No worries. And Toyota knows this, most will option out rather than go the bare bones route, that's where they can make the larger profit margin. Granted you can still get the Tech and Prem without the Advanced stuff for $43k which is closer to the 19 $41k, but add in the advanced package and it balloons to $44k.

From my interpretation - if you stay out of the Premium package the prices become pretty reasonable as compared to previous years. I have but a handful of options and my MSRP is $38.2k.

Just want to say I have done allot of research on the Tacoma lately. I am looking at buying a new mid sized truck and the price really has not gone up much on the 2020 Tacoma. I think they said between 200.00 to 600.00 depending on model and that is not bad especially for the new stuff added.

Problem is the 2020 is in limited supply so deals are hard to find. You can not even find a 2020 around here they are all ordered and if one comes in it is gone that day. I heard some places are gouging big time and some are selling over MSRP.

That said I think the price will be lower on the Tacoma next year and their will be bigger rebates than people are used to seeing on them. With the new Tacoma plant in Mexico opening in December and the Texas plant increasing output so supply will jump.. Also with Ford increasing production on the Ranger and they are finally selling off the lots this will create more competition in the market. Now throw in a possible new Frontier. I think next year may turn out to be a buyers market.

Probably hurt the resale value some too of the mid sized market.

For me waiting for a 2020 next year may be worth it.

Yep, its only like a $200 jump for apple carplay and a power seat, not bad at all.

Price change for bare bones yes, tech/prem/optional package wise, no, its a steep jump.
