My heart goes to the families. I couldn’t imagine. Two volunteer firefighter from Simsbury were on it apparently, same town I work in.

Just curious, what's the crime like in your area? We're seeing a veritable crime wave hit the Northeast corner. 5 cars stolen over the past week including my friend's 2018 Highlander, three houses away. A bunch of property theft too. Generators, etc. Someone is going on a real tear...And this is virtually unheard of in this area.

Haven't really heard anything around my neck of the woods, or in my town (Brookfield) at least. I'm sure there's crap going on all the time, but nothing that I've heard of or seen personally.

People need to find something better to do with their time.

 

drug addicts 100%. They will get caught soon don't worry. Every once and a while growing up some guys would come down from Bennington VT and go through every open car they could find and steal everything in it or not locked down. These guys aren't smart and will be caught, total hassel for every else though.


Oh, and since it's unheard of in your area, its the best place to rob. Cause no one probably locks their stuff up.

 

He, no, before last week, there wasn't a lot of locking anything. Now I'm on lockdown and turned all my old cell phones into security cameras. Someone comes onto MY property, I'm gonna know about it.

 

Best you can do, get them on camera so someone can identify them.

 

We’ve recently had a spat of car break-ins in Canton, and it’s a very quiet town. I’d agree with others that it’s probably tweaker addicts.

I lock my car at night and I have two big ass dogs. Seems to do the trick.

 

Our neighborhood gets hit every year. 2 guys were caught recently. They were inner city out of Springfield mass. We also get the Hartford dirt bags too. Btw there is no "castle" law in ct. Even after what happened with Dr Petite in Cheshire.

The castle doctrine is not explicitly defined, but here is the statute for CT.

Sec. 53a-20
Use of physical force in defense of premises.
A person in possession or control of premises, or a person who is licensed or privileged to be in or upon such premises, is justified in using reasonable physical force upon another person when and to the extent that he reasonably believes such to be necessary to prevent or terminate the commission or attempted commission of a criminal trespass by such other person in or upon such premises; but he may use deadly physical force under such circumstances only (1) in defense of a person as prescribed in section 53a-19, or (2) when he reasonably believes such to be necessary to prevent an attempt by the trespasser to commit arson or any crime of violence, or (3) to the extent that he reasonably believes such to be necessary to prevent or terminate an unlawful entry by force into his dwelling as defined in section 53a-100, or place of work, and for the sole purpose of such prevention or termination.

 

Likewise in Danbury. Nothing unusual for a town this size. I'm from Waterbury, lived in East Hartford, Enfield and Springfield amongst others. I'm not all that security conscious, I lock stuff up, don't leave anything too valuable where it could end up missing but I don't have security cameras. I live in a condo complex so that adds a little security (and we have a cop that lives here).
It does seem that most houses tick ranger visits have varied degrees of video surveillance or K9 protection. I've had conversations with homeowners through their doorbells (creepy).
Sucks but that the world we live in.

I have one of those Ring doorbells now! Mostly to make sure that my inlaws are at my house on time to get my kid off the bus.

 

Same here but I'm a decade ahead of you. Started with a 30 yr fixed at 6.75% which was really good for 1997. Then refinanced in 2005 with a 15yr at 5.385%. Paid off in 2011. 14yrs start to finish. Then started dumping what was the mortgage payment into my kids college fund. First one started college in 2016. This year is a double whammy with 2 in college at the same time. Third one starts in 2026.

 

That's our goal as well; to fund the kids college fund.

 

Good plan.
College should be about 500g a year by then.
