I created a profile on Truecar.com with a new google email address (made a throw away email because they will spam the heck out of you)..... you can search the area for the best prices of actual vehicles on the lot and dealers will also email you their best price..... I was able to buy my wife's 2017 RAV4 for 1500 less than the best offer I was emailed.......just happened to be from a dealer I bought my Taco from..... fyi, not all dealers participate in Truecar..... i thought it was a good exercise to determine whether you are getting jacked around..

About a year and a half later my wife was rear ended on her way to work and the RAV4 was totaled. It was about the time the 2019 Rav4s were hitting the showroom and there were no discount incentives and not one dealer would budge on selling them any lower that sticker price.......... luckily my wife didn't like the '19s so we ended up with a 2018 which was heavily discounted (only thing is we had to choose from the models on the lot, ended up with same model just a different color).... Depending on the demand sometimes negotiating may not be an option....

I just read the OP landed a Taco.... Congrats!

Costco car buying program is also good..
May even be worth the membership if you don't have one to save cash..

Yep, not a member, but I know guys that have used it and the pricing was pretty spot on with invoice pricing. Sucks, we had an inside guy when the 16s dropped that gave a whole spec sheet for invoice pricing, made it super helpful for guys here. Would be nice to have the same thing with the 2020 as there are now a few more options/packages.

Costco Auto lists the 2020 Pro at a little over 43k Invoice. I was not going to look at getting a Pro when I buy in April but I will be trying out the Costco Auto to see if I can get one for close to that.

I can't figure out dealers. About 6 months ago we got my wife a '19 Rav 4 Limited. MSRP was right at $40,000 and they played hard ball for a few weeks with us ($38,500 range). But we kept dropping by once or twice a week, asking what the "real best price" was. I guess they finally got sick of us because, via text, they offered it to us at $36,000 (best price by far that we'd seen for a limited). We jumped on it (10% below MSRP).

I tried getting a good discount with them while Taco shopping but couldn't make it happen. They gave ZERO shits that I was a repeat customer. I was hoping for a similar price drop on the truck I wanted, but, being a 2020...no dice.

I bet you can use Costco program to get a price and use it at other dealers not listed to negotiate price.

Might be worth the fees to save thousands to some even if you do not go to Costco..

50k for a Tacoma is nuts. I would walk away from that deal before you take possession.

Sh*t, even $35k is nuts for these things, but hey its what they command. $40k is hard enough to swallow, but $50k but its all a matter of perspective, my parents both drive $50k plus vehicles but they also own their own business and have a paid off mortgage. As a broke ass former AD guy and now nursing student, I couldnt imagine. But then again I regret not just buying an older 2nd gen or 1st gen tundra as I get older in age, what I drive and the payment that comes with it just isnt worth it.

I am getting family discount from Sales manager(Uncle), $1800 off MSRP + $500 Military rebate. But he told me that that was best he could do. The discount on my Platinum Tundra was much more!

Worse time to buy is when they have the previous model years still on the lot. Dealers want to get rid of the previous model years first.......Wait until about a month after "Toyotathon", that is when the incentives kick in on the new models, although sometimes dealers won't budge on price if there is a high demand for a particular model....

    If I were in the market I would follow this advice;

“If you're considering the most recent models, January and February are good months to buy (as long as incentives don't drop much from end of year). Sales are usually slow and you'll take advantage of the fact that many manufacturers raise prices as the year progresses.”

exactly.... Toyotathon usually happens around Christmas and New Years offering deep discounts on previous model years to purge them off the lot, then about month later incentives usually kick in on new model years...

It did but they are few and far between on actual dealer lots. I would think by the middle to end of this month you will start seeing a lot pop up in inventory. Like many on here interested in the 2020 - I ordered mine 3 weeks ago and waiting until the end of Oct for expected delivery.

I bought a 2020 4X4 Sport access cab 6MT in MGM with the premium technology package, Predator tube steps, rubber mats, door sills, chrome tip (forget what else they threw on it) for $35k out the door. It also had some paint protection crap and tint that I said no to, but they were already on the truck so whatever.

They happened to have it on the lot and I showed up on the 30th (last day of month, last day of quarter) so I think that helped. I feel good about what I paid.

Waiting for model year close out is good advice if price is your highest priority. Chances are though you’ll end up with either a MGM or Silver truck and possibly some less desirable options packages. If you find a previous model year truck you really like the configuration of, I wouldn’t wait in hopes of saving a few bucks.

People need to walk out on the dealer. If everyone balks at $41-42k for a loaded OR, they’ll drop the price.

I paid $37,400 for a then loaded 2017 OR. But it didn’t have TSS, power seats, leather, led headlights, cameras and a fixed automatic.

Well, I’m not paying 41-42k on a 45k sticker. A lot of other people in these parts won’t either. And it’s the headquarters of these mofo’s.

So laugh all you want. I sure do at the prices people pay in other parts of the country.
